I must admit, the Wedge I own right now is quite loud but my neighbours are ok with it where I live. The problem however is where I sometimes park the Wedge in a garage in a block of garages. The lady living opposite came over one day and ordered me to switch the engine off as its too loud and is disturbing her late morning lie in. Admittedly it was Sunday but it had also gone ten o'clock. I argued the point that it was late enough in the morning to start the car and that it shouldn't be that audible in the flats where she is. Then she was telling me that her windows were shaking on their hinges through the vibration and so on. I firmed up a bit and told her it was all legal and that if she wants to complain to the authorities then that was up to her. She walked away huffing and puffing. Later on in the day when I returned her husband came along to have a quiet word with me. He said I was rude to his wife. I told him his wife was rude to me telling me not to use my car, and I stood my ground. They haven't bothered me ever since but they do give me some funny looks when I see them. Still, we can't please everyone.

I am sure some of you must have some stories to tell about noisy Wedges. Hey Zig?

Tony. TCB.

Bloke across the road threatened to kill me. Didn't like a 4:30 alarm call for some reason. To be honest that was the last one as well, I needed to do it around three times as I am aware that it is a tad loud but he blew a gasket instead of having a nice chat.

He has since moved. Thinking back, driving off one sunny day, he was not waving hello at me......

Just remembered that when my old 350i did start (had major problems) after the new clutch, there was plumes and plumes of black smoke billowing out of the exhaust which just happened to be heading towards a ground floor flat with the window open....Oops.....anyway the woman who lived there was not best pleased and was shouting asking me to stop it. The funny thing is that I could hardly see her due to the horrendous exhaust gases and couldn't see her through the smoke....

Aren't TVR's brilliant biggrin

Oh aye, for the last 10 years the only reason the bloke next door has spoken to me, has been to complain about the noise - not just of the TVR but even closing a wardrobe door too loudly for his liking rolleyes

Edited for typographical catastrophes. But not apostrophes biggrin

From my Delilah days….There is an alternate health centre across the road from me and last year they started moaning about the noise of Delilah disturbing their clients..A woman came over to me and said.."We were sitting there meditating listening to the birds singing when suddenly the peace was shattered by the horrendous noise of your car".."Our clients pay £50 per hour for consultations"..I told them they better go and do it in the park then if they want to hear birds singing!..And then the following morning while i was warming her up for a sausage meet a middle class tree hugging hippy came trotting over saying.."Oh god how long is this going on for"..To which i replied.."F**K off"…They threatened me with calling the council so i called the police who then warned them that it is harassment as I'm allowed to start my car..Its got an MOT..Its insured and taxed…To which i smugly smiled and said.."Have a nice day now"….laugh

I live in a small seaside village, I'd say everyone knows the sound of my 280 now. About half a mile from my house there's a stone railway bridge and the acoustics are great, I always drop the boot going uner it to let the missus know I'm nearly home smile
She was talking to the neighbours wife who said when her husband who's a biker hears it he goes shhhh! Listen to that engine smile

I leave for TiTT once a year at stupid o'clock and the neighbours never even hear me.

Even this year when I had to return because of a broken fan belt and fix it in the road, they still didn't wake up.

I must be REALLY lucky, I have never once (in the UK at least!) had a "complaint" about my wedge (might change now its moved garages, but I hope not) I have many of the neighbours come out and want to have a look round the car and listen to it.

I do have a policy which I try to stick too, I aim not to start or move the car (in or out) between midnight and 6am, I'll admit that sometimes I have returned late and if the need arises have left early but I try to stick to those timings as best I can.

I try and arrive and leave as quietly as possible, keeping the revs as low as possible and minimising the time the car is running whilst I open and close the garage etc.

All this and my wedge is about the same level of sound as Delilah. (Zig can testify to this from the BNG Calendar shoot in 2012)

My Local MOT Garage did comment the first time I took it in that "The exhaust is a bit loud" and tried to see that as a "fail" but once explained to them about TVRs they now just put it down as an "advisory" to cover themselves.

My only complaint was at Classic Le Mans in 2010 when I arrived at the Campsite on the friday morning about 5am (Having driven overnight) and the marshalls decided that making me do a tour of the campsite looking for my pitch was a fun idea, one of the guys (a Belgian I think but not 100% sure) was upset enough to leave his tent to complain, but I appologised and explained I was at the mercy of the Marshalls finding my pitch, annoyingly for all concerned my pitch was less than 100m from the gate so that was not really required if they could have looked it up properly.

I used to feel guilty taking my old 350i to work during the Summer months (setting off about 5:45am) but fair play nobody ever complained....

We'll see what happens next Summer with the 400SE with her new exhaust smile

Anyone who complains has no soul, however I find the noise of rattling smoky diesels offensive ~shrugs~

No negative remarks yet, or they don't dare.
Question sometimes asked is, if it is legal. Answer is yes!

Don't think my wedge is super loud and quieter than most of you with V8s on here.
Changed the exhaust a couple of years a go for a stainless standard UK spec. This is different to the original Continental version and has no back box under the boot. Lovely sound now, more bass and a bit louder on full chat compared to the old one. Exactly as i like it. Haven't done trackdays with one and hopefully no issues regarding noise just like the previous one.

^^^^^^

Yeah, but with a big Wedge he would have needed a new sleeping bag......

(edit, in my defence I realise that the chin might be a bit different)

Had a Caterham with a Crossflow Ford in it for 12 years.
Used to set up the 2x40 Webers every now and again
One particular neighbour a couple of doors away was once heard to say, as I finally switched it off
"Thank the lord for that"

I used to live in a small culver sac with a SEAC in the garage. A neighbour once told me that when I started her up his letter box started rattling and the glasses on his dresser started to Ching. I started to apologise but he stopped me saying the loved the sound of it.
