The Carbon Fiber Effect .. just seen this... do we like?
Discussion
Not that I'm looking for anything doing, but thought it may be of interest to someone who does.....
It looks quite a good process and top results.... I found it on the Fazza forum where a guy's had his rear difuser done
so you must be able to do wheels etc
wonder if it would work on a Plenum?....

haven't clicked the link but I'm assuming it's the wet-dip method?
Personally I'm not a fan of faux-carbon fibre. It's all well and good until you see actual carbon fibre, at which point you realise it looks nothing like (for obvious reasons).
There IS some fun to be had with wet dipping though - look into it, there are various lurid camos, furs and other finishes available!

That's pretty impressive, seems it's not just carbon fibre effect.....
Seen this one? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKuXyeAGzEU
Some odd one's there but pretty neat.

Enquired about getting my dashboard & radio panel dipped in a walnut wood effect. The finish looked very good but the price put me off at £160 and the lead time last summer was several weeks.

Yeah, Geoff with the F430 is a friend of mine. It really does look superb up close. It's perfect. Geoff is very particular and I know he wouldn't stick rubbish on his car!! I was very impressed. He's had a few bits on the car done now. It looks quite a good process and top results.... I found it on the Fazza forum where a guy's had his rear difuser done

Didn't think about the plenum, and I've just painted mine!

I haven't seen a single item that had any form of curve on it that's been wrapped using any of the conventional techniques that didn't have some part of it that didn't look right.can be done with a heater fan easy by yourself...
Obviously I've not seen it close up but judging by the video I posted this stuff seems to wrap even tight curves very well indeed.

3M vinyl does not come in a convincing wood effect finish, the hydro dipping technique discussed above does. can be done with a heater fan easy by yourself...

I've used 3M vinyl to recover my daily drivers interior trim - when applied correctly (it took several attempts and much patience to get it right) it is entirely convincing. So much so that a BMW sales manager asked where I'd sourced the "lovely new trim pieces".Obviously I've not seen it close up but judging by the video I posted this stuff seems to wrap even tight curves very well indeed.
The hydro dip stuff doesn't really 'wrap' the piece, it's more of a film transfer.
I don't think the carbon effect suits Chims/Griffs so I DIY painted my dash piano black for about £10 and a few hours with a rattle can, wet n dry and then a rotary polisher. It came out really well.
Anyone do this process in the middle area of the country?

Found one in Coventry
