before i 'go talk to them' i would like to see what the general feeling is regarding my situation. My OH thinks i am being unreasonable hence my sharing with PH for opinions.

Background

I live in a cul-de-sac, 8 houses in total 4 on the upper bit, 4 on the lower bit. below is a diagram

Houses i have lettered and i have also lettered their corresponding parking space(s). Now these spaces are not allocated or reserved it's just 'known' where people usually like to park (this is where me and my OH disagree.

we have all been here at least 5 years except house 'd' who have been here around a year.

House D is the only household with 3 cars and my gripe is that instead of finding a space and sticking to it, they seem to park it where ever they fancy, always in a different spot and most of the time right where someone else (Who lives there) usually parks.

Below is a diagram of the spots randomly chosen

The really annoying thing is they DON'T choose the spare spots, they seem to ALWAYS park in someones time spent space.

Do people really not 'get' about how others like to park in the same space? - i for one like my space because i can see it from my window, if i have to park on the other side it is shielded from my view and makes me nervous !

Do they not realise, do they not care, are they doing it to wind me up, should i get a life or do you see my point of view?

I appreciate the frustration of having your chosen space taken by someone but dependent on the type of people they are, they might just tell you to do one and realistically there is nothing you can actually do.

Have you checked your deeds and any appendix relating to "spare" spaces.

Check those first, I'm assuming this is leasehold.

Unfortunate for the people in house B, who don't seem to have a car (based on the drawing, even though they have one in the list), but I would have thought they (D) would want their cars all together.

I don't think you're being unreasonable in expecting different behaviour from D BUT I also don't think they're being unreasonable enough to be challenged.

I see your point entirely but I don't think there's a lot you can do about it.

An old friend of mine lived with his parents along with his 2 sisters. 5 cars in the household on a narrow street, plus boy friends and a girlfriend with cars who would turn up. The house had a driveway around 3 cars long with a garage at the end. The garage was used for other stuff but typically the father would park his car at the opening of the driveway and the other 4+ cars would be strewn around the surrounding pavements. I never understood why they refused to use the full driveway - even when the parents went away for the weekend, they'd still leave a car at the opening of the big long driveway and everything else would block the roads and pavements.

Going by the drawings you have far too much spare time. its a road and anyone can park where they like as long as their car is legal, you might not like it but thats just how it is, good luck !

I can vaguely see where you're coming from, but unless they're very reasonable (which seems unlikely, given that they park wherever they want) nothing will change. Could you put off street parking on your front garden?

Have a word - make clear you well know that he has every right to park where he likes but ask whether he would mind aiming for the "S" spots.
Mention your and your neighbours' peace of mind being able to see your cars from your houses, rather than the fact you are all lazy buggers!

You never know until you try!

Yeh, that's on the list - done the kitchen this year, driveway next year.

I get in the grand scheme of things is no biggie and there are other people starving / suffering around the world etc etc it just really irritates me!

Yes. If it bothers you, move house.
What, if i moved house i wouldn't have the problem any more? Why the hell didn't i think of that?

Such a simple solution. Why bother speaking to someone when i can just move. Genius.

Hang on though, i think i can find some middle ground between it bothering me and me moving house. Thank you for your valuable input though.

thumbup Where we used to live was similar, and we (and our guests, usually) wouldn't dream of parking in "someone else's" spot because we're polite. You could try Walm's approach but they're as likely to take it as a challenge to piss you off as they are to change.

Don't tar me with his brush, you asked for an opinion I offered a response.

Or you know you could just try having a chat rather than moaning about it on the internet, you know human interaction not done via a keyboard.

lol you got caught up in the quote system. get over it! tongue out

this is human interaction, people that use forums are human, right?

i was asking if people thought i was being unreasonable BEFORE going to speak to the neighbour. General feeling is that i am being unreasonable so i shall just move on with my life smile

Saved a possible argument with a neighbour thanks to PH. smile

A friendly chat over the garden fence and then bring up the subject of parking in a joking way rather than confrontational.See what kind of response you get and take it from there.

If you are the first one home and put your car at the top of the driveway, 2 cars in behind you. You then needed your own car out for whatever reason, you would then need to move the 2 cars and get yours out then put them back in again. Same in the morning, it would be like a game of musical chairs to get cars in and out of the driveway.
