My dog is sneezing a bit over the last couple of days. He also seems to be wheezing very slightly. He's eating and playing as normal and doesn't seem to be suffering in any way.

So, do dogs get colds?

Not as we experience them but there are many viruses and bacteria that can affect a dogs respiratory tract. If it's the last couple of days it could just be something like a foreign body that is stuck up the nose if it's causing a slight wheeze or any number of potentially more serious ones. If it's not usual behaviour and has come on suddenly like it appears to have I would recommend you get it checked out.

Maybe a reaction to some kind of plant or herb that's been sniffed in the park or garden?

Thanks for the replies. He seems a bit better today so I'll see how he goes over the weekend and take him to the vets if he's still showing symptoms on Monday.

Today we received a text....... There will be one less bowl on the kitchen floor this Christmas frown

Sorry to hear this.

Did it turn out to be kennel cough?

I ask as I was going to start a thread but saw this one.

My dog has been sneezing the last couple of days, no discharge or noticeable breathing problems or coughing at all. He's not pawing or rubbing his nose into anything either.

He's also fine in himself and not sneezing more on walks and still runs as often as he would. Nonetheless it sounds like it's worth a trip to the vets?

My husky went through an episode of sneezing a few months back - vet diagnosed bacterial infection and 5 days of antibiotics cleared it up. Dogs dont get colds as we do

Couple of years my bulldog got something very like a cold - he had a really dribbly nose and looked rather sorry for himself.

It was pitiful, yet surprisingly funny too.

This topic was on a U.S news channel a couple of weeks ago, pretty much saying that your pet dog can pick up the owners bugs and in particular the common cold.

I took mine to the vet this morning. Nothing too obvious apart from a temperature of 103. So, just a course of antibiotics and see how he goes.

My 7 month old Akita seems to have this problem just like he has a cold sneezes with a bit of mucus like discharge and sometimes a little cough but apart from that he is 100% eating like there is no tomorrow and charging around like a loony but will be keeping a very close eye on this.
