Classic entry level Alfa

Good to see an Alfa Romeo Spider 1750 Duetto and not in the usual white or red.


No problem at all with white: looks great on the Giulia.


No problem with this beige either.


Mustard remains one of my favourite period colours. Never seen on any Spider though.


Thanks to the huge numbers sold - and in the USA - Spiders still keep within the range of budget classics. I consider < Eu 20K 'a reasonable prized classic'.


On board all is very well. And yes, the Duetto office is nice and the later Coda Tronca and Aerodinamica are equally lovely equipped. Expect a good seat (comfy and tight), precise steering and a tough box which will require a firm hand and left foot.


The 1750 is lively and has all the torque. My choice in the engine range (1300, 1600, 1750, 2000) for either a Spider and Junior / 105. But the 105: lavender please.

I've driven an '88 Aerodinamica which was very well maintained. I found it both comfortable and quick. The sump guard does not like speed bumps. The sound is glorious. Dunno how it compaires with a Pinninfarina Spider 2 litre.

Strangely the car urged me to push it a bit. In cruising mode the car did not feel very special to me. Apart for the styling which is brilliant.

Mechanicals on the classic Alfa's are from what i've read / heard are pretty solid and no way as bad as the 80's /90's rust buckets

Mechanicals are excellent. Take care of the body/rust issues, and you´ll have no problems. Coda tronca Spiders are very under rated by the marketplace, probabl due build numbers. A beautiful convertible sportscar with a charcterful aluminium twin cam engine, disc brakes, five speed transmission, excellent convertible top and excellent spare/performance parts supply.

105 / 115 series prices are on the rise. Still there are loads of bargain 'non original' cars out there: Giulia and Bertone cars with upgraded Nords or even Twin Sparks. Berlinas are still under 10K.

Reasonable S2, 3 and 4 (the plastic spoiler one) cars are Eu 10K over here.

A mint Duetto will sell for 30K easily.

IMHO S2 has pulled way apart from S3 & S4. 35k asking prices aren´t unheard of.

I agree, but not long ago those were half the price. Perhaps the massive price gap between the coupes and Spiders has started to shift attention to Spiders?

Spiders are often not in the same quality bracket. Coupes always seemed to be the better maintained cars.

Could I ask exactly what model, age and spec that car is? I have always fancied a Spider but that one looks superb, some idea of its value would probably help to fuel or dampen my ardour.

That looks like a Duetto - the expensive ones with the boattail back are 30K+.

Pick a 70s S2 / S3 with a rubber rear spoiler and you'll be fine.

The last (S4) models (2 litre Nord with EFI, plastic body kit) are the cheapest and easily found for under 10K.

Good luck finding one of those. Pretty much extinct, can't imagine why.
How man left thinks they are too, but I do know there was one pristine example in the UK a couple of years ago, perhaps they never registered it.
