recently looked at an add on top marqes for a sl55amg the price for the car at the top of the ad was 17400.been looking for a while for 0ne of these and this one seemed ok until you had to take out there warranty which was nearly 900 quid.i thought this was quite misleading and in the last halfhour have contacted the seller who said this is the way he did things and if I didn't like it do what I like.nice.name of dealer by pm

Doesn't seem entirely unreasonable. God knows, I can't imagine many bills on those come in under £900 so I'm astonished a dealer would even offer to warranty one!

we all know thos warranties are useless.my point was that he was hidin the fact that you had to buy the car with the said useless warranty thereby with no cost to himself and a backhander from the warranty company

Not hiding, just his t&cs nothing wrong with that. If you think it's underhand buy a more expensive car from elsewhere.

As a dealer the last thing in the world I'd like to be involved in is a cheap SL55AMG, so much potential for huge bills.

I'm with you. Why pay £900 more when you KNOW that any faults that develop won't be covered! They'll ALL be put down to "wear and tear sir" or "owner abuse sir"

As for trader trying to protect himself. Pull the other one. If you want the glamour of selling AMG kit. Then budget accordingly if things go wrong! It's like, if you don't want to risk death don't go parachuting.

These small indy traders never offer any comeback anyway, you may as well buy privately and save the extra 15% Say he buys this SL55 and the roof plays up. They'll do everything they can to get out of it. Whilst there aren't many left at official MB Dealers, at least you know the warranty/goodwill will be more likely to play ball a bit if you get a fault inside 6 weeks.
