WHY cant my brokers simply give me their lowest renewal price?

they write to me

I ring round 10 insurers

I ring my insures

They ring me.............£128 less than 1st price quoted, £7 higher than best (other) quote

wouldnt life be simpler if...........

sigh

Original quote £939 F/C (1 driver, 58, CCDL, no claims, protected NCD,) plus £96 for £10M PL)

Now £907 all included...

(taxi insurance)

The insurance industry relies on lazy people come renewal time.

You are NOT lazy.

I don't understand people that say this. Their best quote theyll give is prob one that makes them only £10 profit. They cant do this for every customer, they need to make more on the lazy ones.

I doubt that. They probably don't receive claims on 99% of policies, so that's free money for them. I've always thought we should get some money back each year for not claiming, because otherwise you aren't actually getting anything for your money. Or just crash each year and get your money's worth.

Yes, otherwise everyone pays full whack at the beginning of the year, then gets a percentage back at the end if they don't claim. All that happens then is people post about how insurance companies earn interest all year on your full premium and they should discount it at the start instead!

This year was the first time I couldn't get the renewal quote of £328 beaten. It was with privilege. But then they sent my other cars renewal through as £650 which was easily beaten but then privilege did that for £328 also :/

Ive been UNDERpricing my jobs for too long, basing prices more on what id wanna pay than what the going rate is so this is my new price guide...

I think im pretty cheap

My insurer rang me a month before renewal and quoted 380 quid, a quick trawl of the comparison sites suggested 280 would be about right so I told them to ring me back closer to renewal tine.
They phone back a couple of weeks later and I mention cheaper quotes onlibe. They offer me 380 and 90 quid cashback after 3 months but paying it monthly pushed the price up closer to 440.
I took the online route and insured for 240 which was affordable in one payment.

Admiral are the same every year, but 10 minutes online and a phone call usually sorts things out smile

Re people mentioning "not getting anything for their money" if they don't claim on their policy. It's moronic. You're insuring against the possibility of something happening, the money you pay needs to be there for the pool as a whole, so that when there are claims, they can be paid. How many claims do you think come to less than the average premium? That money has to come from somewhere, as well as wages & other operating costs. It's like buying a lottery ticket, then asking for your money back when it doesn't win the jackpot... rolleyes

If the price you've saved is more than you make in 4 hours, then it was four hours "well" spent.

You just spent 4 hours to save £32. Or looking at it from another angle, you've just taken 4 hours to drive 20 miles... (Assuming insurance for taxi)

£110 for a 40 mile trip?!?! Are you a helicopter pilot?

You're asking for two tanks for diesel to use less than a gallon. I'm sure it's the "going" rate, but this really is the epitome of what Daily Wail extremists would call "Broken Britain".

6 of us did 70 miles in the dead of night in a taxi in China not so long ago, cost us £12. I understand why the price is so different, but that doesn't make me want to be a cabbie any less. Christ, I could drive my usual daily commute to work and make a weeks salary out of it.

Simon.

Also, sorry, on topic: yes, insurance companies should just give you their best price. We aren't a country of bartering, we don't go into Sainsbury's and haggle with the checkout girls, we get told the price and we pay it or go to Lidl, much, much simpler than having to play a pathetic game of mouse & cat which does nothing but cost the buyer time and the seller inordinate sums of money to hire staff to argue the toss over a quote which could just as easily have been offered in the first place.

You could do this yourself. Take out a policy with a big excess. Put the full excess amount in a bank account at the start of the policy. If you claim, use it. If you don't then give it back to yourself and you've got something back for not claiming. It doesn't make sense to do though. As another poster said, you're sharing risk. If you want your money back (minus expenses) each year you don't claim, then they can't afford to pay any claims bigger than your premium minus expenses in a year when you do claim.

True, but it's also economically insane. OP has spent half a day's labour producing absolutely nothing of worth, and received financial benefit as a result. (Not that I'm blaiming the OP in the slightest). It becomes very had to have sympathy for a market that has set that sort of system up when/if the govt starts talking about regulation...
