In the course of my enquiries with a detailer with something of a reputation on this forum he offered me a Glass coat sealant. Having no prior knowledge of such things, can anyone enlighten me and advise pros & cons? Thanks.

There are a few on the market. Francis (aka Paddy) is your man for recommendations as he used at least two of the leading ones.

He coated my car in 22PLE after doing the paint enhancement. Makes the surface look like glass, much easier to clean and last a long time. Definitely worth having applied.

there are lots of options, from glass sealants, to natural or synthetic waxes, to more basic coatings with lots of pros & cons but one golden rule - whatever you decide to have put on, go direct to a quality detailer as they will charge less, do it far better and offer more than a dealer sold option

Wow! Two replies and still on topic - must try harder boys (and girl).

To clarify - are there any disadvantages of such sealants other than additional cost? Rest assured, work will be done by a detailer.

Sorry to keep this on track (I'm sure Jockman, avinalarf et al will will along in a minute to divert it to other matters!). As long as you put the sealant on top of paintwork that has had all the swirls etc. removed then there is no downside, other than you spend less time cleaning the car smile

No downsides as far as my experience. Paddy did my V8 and then my V12 with G-techniq EXO at my choice. I have been very happy and have applied it to my SLK as well. It continues to make washing far easier and I have not bothered with waxing the cars since, which saves times and effort.

Go for it, but as has been said, only after getting the paint sorted properly first.
