How to stop a bleeding claw/nail?
Discussion
Got back from a nice walk only to realise that his claw on the front is bleeding. Think he caught it on something and its snapped half way down, were going to get them clipped soon obviously wanted to save us the trouble!
Anyway he is now on his bed asleep with it cleaned up and a plaster over it, doesn't look to bothered by it but is there a good way to stop it or is it a matter of time?
As said he doesn't look to bothered just don't want to wake up in the morning and find out where he has been by bloody foot prints.
Thanks for your help all.

Silver nitrate pen would be best, but it's painful to apply it to the quick so he may not be too cooperative. Otherwise taping something like a sock over the paw till morning should hopefully deal with any bleeding if it gets knocked. If you do use a sock make sure you keep it dry so put a bag over it when the dog goes outside.

Brilliant thank you very much gd49. Will go off and find one of the pens tomorrow.
Thanks again
You won't need it by tomorrow, any bleeding should have stopped. If it hasn't then you need to see a vet as there could be something going on with the dog's clotting. No harm of course in having one in reserve in case it happens again. Thanks again

You can get a styptic powder that dog groomers use that you apply and it stops the bleeding as they do tend to bleed an inordinate amount at first. It will sting a bit when you apply it. Obviously too late now but good to have in case it happens again.
Now though it should clot and stop, just make sure it's kept clean and he doesn't start biting it etc.
