… apparently not me boxedin

So, at risk of opening myself up to some thoroughly deserved pcensoredss taking, I'm going to have to ask for PH help.

After a week of waiting, my new Oz Wheels finally arrived for the Delta - fully shod with Yoko winter rubber and all ready to go.

Much to Mrs GTA's irritation (she wanted to go Christmas shopping) I spent the morning fitting them with my 6yr old. We had a great time, and once the job was done, we excitedly prepared to head out for a quick road test...

Disaster. The thing wouldn't budge an inch and it was immediately apparent something was very wrong. eekbanghead

After much bcensoreding around (jacking the car, staring at it hopefully etc) and removing and refitting the wheels, I was clean out of ideas. It was then that I noticed a small brown jiffy bag which contained these 4 discs. It's pretty obvious they go into the centre of the wheel and that I'm an idiot for missing them, but I'm still a bit confused.

1) WTF are they?

2) Why would their absence weld the car to the spot?

3) Why did the wheels seem to fit without them?

4) Do I just slot them into the new wheel?

Feel free to mock - it's been a long week at work, I ache from 3hrs of ccensoredking around on my hands and knees and my son now thinks it would have been wiser for his mother to do the job getmecoat

I'm tempted to have another crack in the morning, but not until I've had some advice. All help gratefully received !

Until then, I'll go to drown my sorrows in a bottle of red wine and reflect on a job thoroughly fcensoredmed up

Matt

Spigot rings.

They mean that "universal" wheels can fit properly on many different cars.

However they will NOT the the cause of your problem.

Are the wheels hitting the calipers ?

The rings are to keep the wheels central on the hub. You will get vibration without them if they're needed.

Look for one or more wheels touching a brake caliper or suspension component when tightened!

When you fit each wheel individually, can you turn them by hand? Are they clashing with the brake calipers?
No, I tried a front and back individually and neither will turn at all - not 1 degree. Stick the old wheel back on, turns fine.

Could be the bolts going in further with the new rims and catching the inside of the hub

Then you need to look at what it's catching on.

Either brake caliper on face or rim

Or wheel / tyre on shock / wheel arch

If it's only a smidge you can usually run 3-5mm spacers to fix it.

The obvious question is who said they would fit / supplied the wheels ?

How big are the new wheels compared to the old? Diameter, width and offset?

are they same size as the old wheels?

do they spin freely on the back wheels when jacked and handbrakes definitely off??

Must be catching on something. take a picture with them on the car.

My money is brake calipers.

Bolts/set-screws too long?
Interesting - There is another set of bolts supplied - just checked and they are shorter.

Is you car studs and nuts, or bolts? If bolts they may be too long and are fouling within the hub.

Sounds to me like you've been supplied wheels with incorrect offsets for your car and that the wheels are touching on the inside edge maybe against the struts when fitted?
Just a thought, are all 4 wheels identical? Or should they be different front to back if so have you got a back wheel (possibly wider) fitted to the front?
Normally when you buy aftermarket wheels, the supplier notes your car details and ensures you get wheels that will fit. I did once buy wheels from a respected supplier only to have to return them because they rubbed on the arches The car was an Astra - hardly rare, but their mistake did some light damage to my car.

Yep, your bolts will be too long. Double check the two lengths supplied to the originals first, to get an idea, but if the long new ones are too long they will be hitting the hub or abs ring gear.

Try the shorted ones, but first try one. You need 'at least' 8 complete turns of thread to adequately hold a wheel on as a general rule of thumb. 10 is better.

And yes, the spigot rings will need to be fitted of they will vibrate.
