I recently sold my 400hp Jaguar S Type R and bought a 1997 Toyota MR2 for considerably less than the Jag was worth.
Its great, im saving money, and its reasonably good fun.

When i had the Jag, i could have sworn that i was not addicted to BHP.
Yes, its fun, but no, i wasnt addicted.

But its seems i was addicted, i cant seem to stop browsing the classifieds at various v8 muscle cars, super saloons, TVRs and Japanese turbo charged rally reps.

How to i get over this depression?
It seems i will have to start car shopping again shortly frown

Anyone else going through the same dilemma, or have been through it?

I think I will be going through it soon - selling my GTR for something more sensible and less money...

Funny you should say that, but flipping from a high horse power car to a low hp one can be a lot of fun. There is a certain satisfaction to getting the best out of a small car and driving it in such a way that it becomes more fun.

Sorry, but it doesn't go. I went from 414>313bhp and it still annoys 4 years later.

But I think it may not be just power, I think once you've had a V8 its difficult to deal with anything else.

The horrible droney 4 cylinder noise doesnt compare in anyway to a V8, thats very true too!

I think part of the problem is that the weather is st and i havnt been brave enough to chuck it around in the wet.

Best antidote to depression is a TVR, preferably with a V8 under the bonnet. Simply listening to it will brighten your day and put smiles on the faces of passers by biggrin

Some might say you should have gone for a MR2 turbo not the NA. Then you wouldn't be such a bitter pikl to swallow.

However V8 is a beautiful sound

My intention was to save some money.
In hindsight it wasnt such a good idea.

It's actually an addiction to torque not power. In which the case the loss is noticeable trhoughout the performance envelope anywhere outside a 30 or 40 mph limit and it's only something which a decent V8 or V12 can provide. So whatever you do don't waste any money on a Jap ricer screamer replacement.

I recently sold my 400 bhp red rose tuscan and replaced it for a classic mini about 60 odd bhp.

I think I will have as much fun in it as the tuscan in different ways.

Surely something like an Impreza with a massive turbo will provide ample torque?

Its an addiction to torque and rpm, if only there was a word to describe that, like power or something.

This is my worry, I recently bought a 645ci and there will a time in the future when a V8 isn't really appropriate for me. But what an earth will satisfy you after a nice big V8

The difference in this case being the type of power that's made by mutiplying relatively more torque by relatively fewer rpm than the type of power that's made by multiplying relatively less torque by relatively more rpm.For that there's no substitute for cubic inches and plenty of cylinders remembering that forced induction can be applied to a bigger engine just as well as a smaller one.

It'll provide torque but wether it'll produce as much torque throughout the rev range,as a large, possibly supercharged,V8 is another question.

The post didn't say there'll be a time when a 645 ci V8 !! isn't enough it was more along the lines of what on earth will be able to do the same job after that.lol.
