So, I realised an an ambition & completed my first season's hill climbing in my Griff. After owning the car for over 12 years & numerous track days, it was time to get involved in a little light competition.

Here's 3 runs from my last raceday of the season at Prescott (the quickest of 49.54sec wasn't captured by the camera due to operator error..).

Be warned, there's the odd expletive….

Thanks to Guglielmi Motorsport & Kits and Classics.

Next year am planning on entering the TVRCC Speed Champs.

I enjoyed that! The Griff sounded nice too - is it standard or have you done some engine mods?

Enjoyed that also!

It always seems easy from an armchair, I'm sure there are always "moments".

Great stuff.

Regardless of the timings that you show, you can visibly see the pat the 3rd run is quicker than the 1st.

Thanks for posting.

Good on ya. I very reluctantly sold my Griff500 a few years ago in order to start hill climbing a Jedi. I loved the Tiv but the Jedis a riot and the buzz of competitions great. However it is a bit addictive and Jedi now about to have an engine upgrade. Good luck in 2014

It looks like you haven't power steering, is that correct?

Thanks for the support & encouragement guys.

As far as mods to my Griff, it's slightly tweaked but still use the std (rebuilt) LT77 'box & diff which IMHO give good gear ratios.

Phazed is right, it's not exactly a tranquil environment whilst competing, tbh the camera mount isn't in the correct place to show this, however not bad for a first attempt.

Edmundo, it's already being discussed! Am trying to persuade my brother to go 50/50 on something from these guys for a couple of years time- http://www.empireracingcars.com

Not knocking it but when a race driver drove mine with manual steering he couldn't correct quick enough when things started to get lively.

Just a thought. I converted mine and never looked back.

This isn't a "knock manual steering" post as on the road its not that bad but on the track it really is 2nd best.

Posted as you look like you needed a hand when it started going wrong.

I totally agree Peter. I think power steering would speed up turn in on the twisty bits as well as helping with 'correction' when things get lively. As a change from hillclimbing the Griff I sometimes hillclimb my wife's Mini Cooper, although the front wheel drive characteristics are understandably vastly different from the Griff it's very noticeable how much quicker the Mini turns in on the twisty bits due to having power steering.

Apologies to the OP for hijacking his thread.

No problem. I really like the ultra-communicative feel of the non-PAS steering I have in my Griff & really do not wish to potentially compromise that with a PAS conversion. On faster tracks, the ability to be able to analyse what is going on is phenomenal, hence possibly why I was 21mph faster thru the speed trap at MIRA compared to a PAS Chim (the speed trap is followed by hard braking into a tight 90ish deg right turn).

I'm car 31 & the Chim is 32, both on list 1B tyres.

I knew this would happen, you griff guys are so predictable.

Sooo, O/T.

Cars with proper track type tyres, possibly wider as well will benifit enormously from PS which is why I said non PS is ok for the road, (but not desirable IMHO).

I have done scores of TDs with and without PS and I know what is better, all in my opinion of course.

I even tried The Ring without PS and regretted every moment.

As to your car being faster then that chim down the straight,................rolleyes

If I disconnected my PS, would your car be faster then mine, I think not.

IMHO, I prefer the non pas steering, its much easier to feel through the steering what the front end is doing and how close it is to the limit. Some prefer PAS as it is much easier to catch the rear, its all a matter of personal choice.

As for who's the quicker driver, stick some numbers on it and we'll see you in the TVRCC sprint champ.
