Steering UJ joints........ what´s the magic ?
Discussion
Was trying to get rid of some odd noises from the front and real rollbar
and found the upper UJ joint from the steering having some play. in the process
will exchange the upper and lower one. put out all the screws and nuts
but wondering what the magic is to get those things of the shaft ?
is there a spline or a hidden secure ring somewhere ?

hopefully someone knows how to get this thing undone

Once the bolts are out they should just slide off.
Obviously, as with other things in life, they never do.
You will need to drive a wedge into the slit in the side of the joint. At the same time you need to make sure your hammer blows are not putting undue side loads on either the rack pinion or the column bottom bearing. You can do this by jamming a lump hammer behind the joint to act as an anvil.
Once you have the joints moving you will likely need to release the rack mounting bolts before the shaft will come out.
