I know I will be beaten easily but I'm quite proud of getting up at 6am to get a quick 30 miles in before having to go and do Christmas visits to the in laws.

I left home just after 6:30 (delayed by needing a 2nd poo (dual stool)) but it was fantastic. Quiet roads, seeing dawn and accompanied by bird song. I plan on repeating this next week. Hopefully just the one dump though.

Mid-summer commute setting off at 0600. Whilst only 15 miles, it was one of the nicest rides of the year!

If I plan to go out early I will set my alarm for 7, however I seem to suffer from the fact I get up at 5:30 every day and then still do so at weekends even without an alarm, after laying there trying to get back to sleep for a while I usually end up getting up and going early so out the door by 6:30!

Its a nice time to go out as you get a bit of a night to day ride and no other traffic / people in the way through the forests and footpaths/bridleways.

Up at 0430 this August to get to the Olympic Park for my allotted start time of 0606 at Ride London earlier this year, riding through Clapham at that time dodging drunks and people falling out of night clubs was so funny, add to that a growing peloton as we went up the A3 towards the start and it was a brilliant start to a great ride.... but more to the point, who is Dawn, does Mrs VRS know you met her, and what on earth have you been eating this weekend?!?!

It's hard to resist the crack of Dawn jokes biggrin.

I drank a bit too much last night and ate a lot of bread and pâté biggrin.

If I cycle the 36 miles to work, I get up at 5.30 to leave between 6.00 and 6.15 to give me time to get into the office for about 8.15 and get a shower and a coffee before a 9 start.

Earliest is 2.15am to start a 600km at 4am. Stupidly, I was up until midnight sorting the bike, and by 3pm needed a handful of proplus to keep going. Still managed 415km before grabbing a couple of hours kip and finishing the job. I've not actually ridden through on a 600km yet. I did the Pendle 600km with an hour break in the floor of a village hall, but that was as much to give a change for my clothes to dry out having decended off Hartside in a deluge.

I only cycled to work once this year, on the longest day of the year.

I start work at 07.30, and live 40 miles away from work, so I was up at 04.00 to allow time for punctures, headwinds, and to get a shower on arrival. I ended up arriving at 06.25, so had a very long shower and a decent breakfast! At that point, 40 miles was the 2nd longest ride I had ever done in one go!

South Downs Way - 04:30 - far too early, especially when you get back at 22:00 after a few hours on the train! frown

Got up at 5.40 yesterday (Sunday) for a 3 hour ride. It was a case of going out then or not at all...

4ish to drive to North Wales for a ride.

I think technically it may be 1am, but that was to catch a flight to Canada for a riding holiday so might be stretching the theme a bit.

You are so right. It's good to know I'm not the only one that thinks like that...

4.00 earliest start for me for the ride London event in the summer even though start time was 6.54 and I was staying over in canary wharf. Like you say, some things just can't be rushed...

Quite a few 5AM starts to get to Wales for a ride.

Does driving through the night and having a ride once we got to Morzine count??

3.30am - breakfast and coffee and then hour and a half drive to the 6.00am start of the Dirtworks 100km a few years ago. Did the ride, completed in about 6 hours, had a quick rest, then loaded the car and drove home. Felt a little bit tired.

Any commute to work means getting up at 5.30, and I'll probably get up at 5.00 a few times in the summer to go for a blast before it gets too hot. Tomorrow's one of those days!

Lots of 5:45-6am starts to get out and back before breakfast here, I rather enjoy being out in the empty and silent countryside in the summer mornings, the fields steaming with mist as the sun wakes up with deer and other wildlife you wouldn't normally see hoping about.
Slightly less keen on winter morning rides where you get Back and its still dark and the family are still in bed!

We tried one year. We left home at 8pm friends, arrived 14 hours later (the last 2 spent driving around Morzine trying to find our digs) mortal enemies ready to kill each other at the first opportunity. Chalet Lad gleefully told us he'd given the people in our rooms a late check-out as they'd tied one on the night before, so our rooms wouldn't be ready for another 5 hours oh and there wasn't any hot water left.

Chalked riding up to a bad idea, got some food in town and took the edge off with some beers.

Up at 0315 for the London 100 in August... That was a long day.

Other than that then probably about 0630 to get fed and out for a 0730 ride.
