Argumentative threads and locking
Discussion
I'm not a moderator and am not affiliated to PH despite being a long term member here.
I would like to say that it is getting really annoying that we cannot have a DISCUSSION without it getting ARGUMENTATIVE and abusive. Please can we tone down the language and try to reason stuff out without getting stroppy?
This way we don't get the ban hammer and threads locked.
Also it would be nice to have intelligent replies and less quoting wars taking place. Play nice. And my apologies for those times that I have broken my own rules.
That is all.

That's why threads about aeroplanes on conveyors are helpful - they serve as a nice test of both intelligence and posting intent.

I think the phrase is
'Play the ball, not the man.'
I think discussion and debate is great.
Especially when people can put forward an interesting and different perspective which others can explore or question.
But - it does get annoying when people start attacking the poster rather than the opinion. When they get rude and abusive.
When they start quoting tiny parts of posts to pick up spelling mistakes or out of context sentences.
I just deal with it by using my own personal ignore list.
It's got about 5 names on it, I never read or reply to anything these posters write.
I find it makes my time here a lot more enjoyable.

Motorbikers are all selfish and do not wait in traffic, they push to the front of the line and cut people up doing 50 in a 30 I see it every day.
Cyclists are even worse bouncing up on the pavement and dodging in and out of people walking, running red lights, not stopping at crossing. They Should pay VED and have insurance too.
Horse riders should pay VED and have insurance and should also only go out on weekdays between 11am and 11.30am.
Be Nice..................

Welcome to The Internet, where the online confidence of an individual is higher than their real-life confidence and pissing someone else off doesn't matter

Usually the kind of posters who insist on having the last word tend to be people that proudly swim against the grain of PH opinion. This is why the thread below in which Singlecoil, heebeegeetee and Swerni all attempt to have the last word (look at Saturday's posts) made me laugh so much. http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
Reminds me of two people I used to work with who tended to talk over other people and, if anyone tried to interrupt them, would just speak louder. Occasionally they'd have a conversation with each other about something totally unimportant, that would end up with them shouting at the top of their voices at each other, while remaining entirely calm.
I've learned to just leave threads that get like this, and either take a 24 hour break or just click ignore. Probably makes the argumentative people think they've "won" but it's not real life, let them win if that's what affords them their jollies.

I wonder why?
