I'm tearing my hair out - figuratively, since I'm a bald coot you understand - because I cannot seem to get the box to update, to even be recognised by the Becker programme. I want to download the "dangerous zones" option and update the maps but no matter what, including using the miniscule reset button on the box, to get the box recognised by my computer. The GPS works fine as is when in the car, but I can't get the radars installed nor update. Any ideas people?

Getting the Map Pilot box to connect is a veritable bd of a job! The only thing that I can update it with is an old steam powered netbook running XP!

However - the most important thing you can do is to go to the Becker website and download the very latest Map Pilot software BEFORE you do anything else.

I had something similar. I found that uninstalling the software and reinstalling worked. Also worth checking that you do not have any firewall restrictions on the computer as the programme is essentially a web based application.

Good luck, I know how much of a ball ache it can be!!

Thanks, but I turned off all firewalls and virus protection during the download and when trying to update the Becker. On one computer the "green installation line" at the top of the Windows page gets to the end and then stalls, refusing to finish. On another the Becker programme installed without a hitch but then says "library cannot be found" every time I try and open it.

So, it was back to Mercedes yesterday since I still have two years guarantee on the car. "We have to follow protocol" says the service reception engineer. So, since they have to tick all boxes on the work sheet the car goes in on the 24th, they lend me a car for the day, they turn on the GPS and say "it works, but won't update" and then give me a new one from the stores. I wouldn't laugh too much, but they are forbidden to plug it into their computer system in case it is infected, so no way can they update it for me! That of course is in France, and if I have a problem I have already talked to the service engineer at the MB dealership near my daughter's and they said that if nothing still works they'll do it for me after Xmas. I don't like driving without radar warnings these days, and since the new C class gearing is 50% different to the old 202 (90kmph = 2,000rpm against 130kmph = 2,000) I find I am sometimes going much faster than I thought.

It is now a month since I first started trying to update my new map pilot.
still now joy and there does not seem to be a fix or reason for this fault.

Has anyone out there had any success ?

Yes, finally I managed to download the radar details - but don't ask me how. I have theoretically downloaded the Becker programme on three computers, but for some reason on one of them it worked - just once. To continue the questions surrounding this opaque system, can someone please tell me how to search for a post code in the UK? I type CM9 for Maldon and the bloody thing took me to Mundon 10 miles away but the same CM9! I tried and tried, but the system would not recognise where I wanted to go. Take the M25 to the Dartford tunnel and it wants you to come off the motorway several times and not go straight on to the toll. I now have to keep my Garmin in the car and refer between the two. Help please.

I just add in the post code in full and then hit start guidance - works for me, but I imagine it is not that easy when it comes to more rural post codes

Whey Hey, cracked it.
So using PC with windows 7 and internet explorer the damn thing would not be recognised to down load the "download manager"

I dug out an old laptop with windows XP and Internet explorer, same firewall/ antivirus.
OK it did not go automatically, I found the setup file and the rest is good news.

Victory, but a unnecessary hastle.
