Guys

I have been asked to help my sister with finding and probably part funding the purchase of an ALFA ROMEO GIULIETTA 2.0 JTDM. She doesn't do enough mileage for a diesel but her heart appears set on one. I have found the enclosed which is priced at £11,995 at wwww.researchgarage.co.uk. Is this a fair price for the car given that a new model has been released? If not I would appreciate some guidance on a realistic target price as I dont have any feel for Alfa pricing. Ordinarily I would expect the equivalent petrol version to be cheaper than a diesel but this doesn't seem to be the case-again a steer on this would be appreciated too.

Thanks in advance for all help and guidance here

Regards
G

I've owned an automatic version for a year. It's been excellent, not major faults and returns 40 mpg. A friend has run a manual for 43.000 miles and again it's been extremely reliable. The manual returning 42 mpg. A 1.4 multiair would be the pick of the petrol engines, that will return 35 mpg real world and for low mileage users make more sense.

Things to look out for;

Interior rattles from the speaker areas and drivers seat back.
Gear knob is plastic and prone to splitting
Some early cars had issues with sticking fuel caps
I would recommend you check the tyres for wear, the Giulietta can be a little hard on tyres but getting the car properly alligned will help with this.

The new model will not greatly affect prices in my opinion, the changes are are not radical on the new model. The 2.0 diesel is now available in 150 & 175 bhp, there is a new grille, seats and changes to the dashboard and steering wheel being the main changes. Not exactly game changing.

I would also heartily recommend Paul at Variava Alfa in Nottingham. He's a proper Alfa man and AROC club member and normally has a huge stock of used Alfa. Tell him Alan from the Alfa Romeo Owners Club sent you.

Keep an eye on Mercedes Nottingham.
We bought a 59 plate Spider JTD 210 from them which we are picking it up tomorrow and are trading in our Giulietta.
It's a 60 plate 2.0 JTDM 170 Veloce in red. It has 18inch wheel upgrade and rear privacy glass.
It's been a fantastic car and the only reason we trading it in is because the other half wants a convertible again.
Great having a girl who's also an Alfa nut!
