See the little black thing in the middle? That arrived at my house this morning, inside all of that packaging!

So, what do you think it is? A static-sensitive super-processor? The world's largest black diamond? The cure to cancer and world hunger all rolled into one?

Nope. It's a little rubber foot for the bottom of my laptop battery. It doesn't matter if you drop it, bend it or whatever. It could've been sent in a small envelope, but instead I've got all this extra rubbish to get rid of! irked

To make matters worse, it's not even the right foot!!! furious

Anyone reckon they can come up with something more ludicrous than this over Christmas?

Dell?

They once sent me a cd in a box about the size of supermarket fruit crate.

Third party maintenance company. It's a Lenovo laptop, but not sure that's relevant.

IT companies seem to be the worst for this:

That's why they sent it to you; gets it out of their hair.

I've had some ridiculous stuff from various car part superstores, gaskets are bad offenders although to be fair it's probably the easiest way to ensure they don't get bent.
Computing is definitely the worst, screws in huge boxes from Dell for example.

If the postage charge was reasonable I don't complain though, means I get some good big boxes for ebaying things smile

I ordered 'The Jam Studio Recordings vinyl set for my Wife from Amazon. It was the thick end of £100 and arrived in a bit of black binliner and was quite badly damaged.

In fairness, they sorted it out pronto.

I got one banana from Morrisons, wrapped in clingfilm on a cardboard tray.

That's not good! I'm awaiting a vinyl single from Amazon tomorrow as a Secret Santa present for Wednesday evening, so I hope that arrives with less issue!

The second one arrived substantially packaged.

Bought my niece one of those tiny little Russian dolls. It was packed inside a slightly bigger one, and that was in another slightly bigger one and so on and so on. There was about 10 of the buggers to get thru. Absolutely ridiculous!

I wouldn't mind this as much, but sometimes I order stuff from the US through a "resending" company when the original company only delivers in the US. However the resending company charge per size of package and weight. So you never have a clue how much extra you'll pay if they do something stupid like this!

A few years ago, we ordered a hard disk from Scan and a couple of other small items. They turned up in a box half the size of the hallway. Inside was about 15 fully boxed copies of out-of-date MacAfee Safe and Sound (as well as our items thankfully). I phoned them up to point out their error to which they would only say 'Free gift! Enjoy!". They wouldn't entertain the idea of having them back. I bet they had an absolute warehouse full. The OH took them into work in the end and carried them into the IT office in the vague hope that they could use them there. The IT Manager just looked up, sighed and pointed at the corner of the room - which was already stacked high with fully boxed copies of out-of-date MacAfee Safe and Sound. "Just add them to the pile." he said. I still wonder occasionally just how many they sent out...
