Well a little shocked and fortunatley we are insured (but capped at £3k). £3.5k includes the intial trauma x-ray, operation at a specialist cat place and a follow up x-ray.

It's been a bad month for cats in our house hold. A couple of weeks ago Domino went missing for a week but happily returned just wanting food and yesterday Ollie broke his ankle.

Please cheer me up in posting your horrifically expensive vet bills smile

I don't have many anymore, but it's only money...

Better to fix an ankle than £500 on new brake pads!!

Sure you'll stop better, but the car doesn't love you half as much!

about 4K on a cruciate ligament on the dog, of which we had to find more than half.

Just before Christmas last year. She will always be the dog that ruined Christmas...

But you now have a bionic cat surely that can leap over houses in a single bound and lick it's own ear? Thank goodness you had insurance but surely the cat hospital could have just stuck your moggy in a pot for a few weeks at much less cost?

TPLO surgery for my dog's torn cruciate ligament.

The bill below doesn't include the initial x-ray and meds from my own vet before going to the specialist. Still have a follow-up x-ray to have at the end of Dec so probably add another £300 to the bill below.
Luckily she was insured although we had to pay 10% of the bill.

I have to be honest here - I love my cats but that sort of bill would have them meeting mr needle frown Yes I'd be upset about it but there are limits

4.5k approx 6 years ago for our cat post rta. Luckily insurance meant we only paid £75 excess

Broken lower limbs mean tricky surgery. I assume for that price an orthopaedic specialist doing the surgery.

Is that the 10% or did you pay and claim it back?

Try 2 MRI scans and then brain surgery. I'd rather not think about the bill but it was quite a lot and then a lot more.
And she is insured which helped, a bit.
But she's still with us 3 years later and we love her to bits. Would we do it again - of course we would.

How old is your cat? Is it young? Or on its last (3) legs?

My cat was run over when he was 1, two broken legs. The vet's bill was only about 500 pounds. That was 17 years ago though.

There was a follow-up operation to remove the metal pins in his legs, can't remember the cost.

The bill would be frightening today for the same operation if you're paying 3.5 large for a broken ankle.

Hhhhm..

Ok, 2.2k for a tooth op. Which was fecked up a bit and required us to go back and get it capped as well, another £500 or so I think.

2.5k for cruciate. Followed by 2.7k for other cruciate about 2 years later.
1.2k for investigations including various scans and tests and whatnot. Thereafter medicine was £130pcm. Then there was some injection that was I can't quite remember but somewhere in the £300 mark I think for the bottle I then injected her myself to save costs and time (I'd never be able to get to the vet everyday).

1.1k for "investigative" works on a cat we acquired from the streets.
I can't remember exactly but a Bank Holiday trip to the vet was not cheap, think around another 1k.

Having vet come out to us for our dog, £500.

I am sure there are a few more 1k plus bills but I can't quite remember them all.

Oh haha. Read the stats on what most vets get paid first.
