Memory card for S110

Just ordered an S110 for the missus (well...mostly) so I need a memory card. I was just going to look at an 8 or 16GB SDHC card until I remembered that the camera shoots full HD video - something which I might not use often, but would like the option to.

How big do I need to go? And should I still be looking at a class 10 card or is that overkill?

There's no reason not to go class 10 TBH, "buy the best you can afford" as they say. The main thing with cards in cameras is the write speed (how fast the camera can write the image to the card) but in reality I doubt any of them would show you a noticeable difference.

As for size it depends on how long you intend to go between taking the photos and storing them elsewhere. If you intend to take your photos and keep them on the camera/card forever more, then sooner or later you're going to run out of space so bigger would be better.

Similarly if you go on a lot of long holidays and are likely to take many many photos and videos then you'd want bigger or maybe 2 smaller cards so you can keep all of your memories.

I have 2 Sandisk 16gb cards 1 ultra and 1 extreme(I've not noticed any difference) which I use in my 60d which will give me 2242 full size Jpeg images and 30 minutes full HD video recording(maximum file size restriction). In my old fuji z20 (10mp) compact I get 3155 Jpegs from the same card.

Cheers, I'll look at 16GB and up then. Hopefully I can find a 32GB within budget with decent write speed. I'll generally have some other storage I can transfer it to - even if that's just my tablet or phone when I'm on holiday.

sorry just to clarify my last paragraph as it doesn't read how I mean it to, each card gives me up to 2242 photos. (in RAW I only get 596...)

I'm of the slightly paranoid variety so I prefer redundancy and have 2 cards in case one fails.
