I am interested in doing a kit car. I do not really know much about what is out there. If you showed me a caterham and a tiger I could not tell you which was which etc.

My criteria:

max 400kg
mid engine
two seats

The only kit I know of that has that is the mevabusa? Are there others?

Any reason for being 400kg (tax/license category ?) - the mevabusa is 430kg on their site. Others to think about -

R1OT from Exmoore (was Sylva) - 430kg
MEV (R&T) have released an R1 version of the mevabusa
Grinall Scorpion (395kg) with three wheels (or MEV Tr1ke)
Most Sevens with a bike engine are around the 500kg mark - may want to look at Raw striker as this is a small seven in size (and very good)
(note officially sevens are mid engine as the engine is between the wheels although at the front)

Start to look at Kit car shows for next year, Stoneliegh has always been the biggest followed by Exeter and Newark

I think that is a single seater with engine alongside driver? That would be a good candidate if two seat though.

Got to be 4 wheels.

I think I would rather be nearer 400kg with less power. But I suppose there is more chance of saving some money buying a finished one of these?

Thanks for advice.

The MEV with the engine beside the driver is the Atomic - Here's the Mevabuisa with the R1 (X-R1) - http://www.totalkitcar.com/2013/12/12/4656/

This is a good read of a lightweight Fisher Fury with an R1 engine - http://www.robcollingridge.com/kitcar/ not midengined in the usual sense though but gives you an idea as to how to get a light full body car (similar to look at mid engined is the Sylva J15).

Old advert for a Sylva Striker with r1 that tipped the scales at 440kg - http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid... - so it can be done, and that is with a full cage.

Sylva vectis or J15 if you want mid engined. It's more like 500kg though

The J15/Vectis is more rear-engined that mid, in fact the Striker/Phoenix/Fury/Stylus are more mid-engined than the J15/Vectis/R1ot
