Seriously considering ditching my next-gen console.
Discussion
Thus far all I've experienced are frustrations and there's simply nothing "Next-Gen" about it.
Microsoft have gone for the "All in One" experience but it doesn't even play music unless you subscribe for £10 a month to an app that you have to have constantly snapped to the side of you're screen meaning you lose a 1/4 of your screen permanently, also you can't control the volume of the unsnapped section of the screen meaning the in-game music is often louder than the app.
As for the games:
CoD and Assassins Creed are clearly games that were ported across to next gen as an afterthought through fear of lost revenue, they both just look like their 360 equivalents.
Forza looks very nice but only 14 tracks = Boreza.
Battlefield takes 15 minutes to get into a game and then it crashes back to the dashboard after 10 minutes of play time. Sound doesn't work, I can't join a queue to get into a game meaning I have to sit there an hopefully mash the "A" button in the hope that I'll catch a space in my mates game.
FIFA is equally atrocious but thats simply down to EA having no competition so they know they can trot out the same tripe every year and people will still buy it.
As for the UI I knew there would be teething problems but I expected it to be with things that were NEW, thus far they've managed to break the party system and the invite system, why try to fix something that so obviously wasn't broken?
I guess I'm just supremely hacked off that I spent £430 on a console that simply can't do many of the things that the console I already had could. Its not even 1 step forwards and 2 steps backwards, its 3 steps backwards.

Fully agree mate. I expected my xbox one to be better than my xbox 360... and so far it just isn't.
I'm desperately hoping that there will be some fixes coming soon:
- party system (which defaults to "voice off" wtf?)
- music system (as you describe)
- voice control system (which currently responds to voices in TV shows/youtube videos!)
- message system (which takes about 30sec to open a message!)
- games (as you describe, Ghosts really isn't 'next gen')
So I'm still hoping that things will improve i) when some proper games come out (like Titanfall) and ii) when the bloody OS is mended.

Pretty much agree with everything you said although I haven't had that issue with the voice commands picking up youtube etc.I'm desperately hoping that there will be some fixes coming soon:

PS4 works as advertised. No real next gen games out yet but I knew that when I bought it. I am addicted to War Thunder though.
Hmm I guess they didn't really promise too much in the first place. However I just find myself sat there trying to fumble my way around the Xbox saying "How on earth did this get past testing"I also miss the 3rd party accessory support which exists around the xbox 360. So you can get after market controllers (e.g. SCUF) or even just accessories like thumbstick extensions (e.g. Kontrol Freeks) Also it would be nice to be able to replace the crappy "free" headset which MS provides with a better quality replacement for simple chat. And it would also be nice to have the option of a fully integrated surround sound headset, like those available for 360. (e.g. Astro) But none of this stuff is available yet.
I feel like I've got the system about 6 months too early. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad I have a day one edition and could participate in the launch etc, but there's still a nagging feeling that in 6 months the glitches will have been ironed out, there will be more 3rd party support, better games, possibly a 2nd gen version of the hardware and (maybe?) a small price drop? Even without the price drop I'm almost certain there will be other improvements which make a better "value for money" proposition than that currently tabled.

Seems to me that people are having wildly different experiences across the Xbone, but very similar on the PS4.
To me, the PS4 didn't offer anything new so I went Xbone, and so far I've not had any of the issues described here. Voice control is spot-on and never catches stuff from the TV or games, I don't play music over my games so no issues there, and the messages and other UI stuff are seamless. Even BF4 has been nothing than perfect since I've been playing it, albeit I only got it on Saturday so not a huge amount of time has been spent with it.
The lack of games and their quality is an issue across both consoles I think, but it does seem odd how some people don't have any issues with the Xbone and some appear to be struggling. I don't think it's a hardware issue, more a software one, so hopefully that can be sorted out.

Decided not to bother at all until prices drop a lot.
Quite happy with the PC can do loads more and with things like Steam I get far less hassle running games on it than I do consoles.
Now its buy new console game, hope it dosnt lock up or have terrible FPS or a massive day one patch. Can have all that on the PC with the added bonus of cheaper games, better sales, mods and larger libary, even the hardware isnt that much more expensive than the current consoles.

'Twas ever thus, and ever will be, that no console launch is ever as good as expected. Remember the launch of the last generation consoles? What was there to play but Kameo and a few cross platform titles? You have to give it time for the developers to both get to grips with the new technology, and also to make some games that aren't rushed for the release deadline. It won't be until around summer next year that both consoles really get into gear.
In the meantime, play Dead Rising 3 and set a few good times on Forza!

IMHO the xbone is good but not great. Enjoy it now for what it can do and set Forza times until it hits its stride early next year.
Unless you've sold your 360 and are missing a specific game, you haven't lost anything...you've just gained less than you thought.
To be fair you've lost party chat and music streaming. If you really want those them go back to your 360.
Financially you might be better off trying to sell the xbone now and rebuy it in 6 months or something...but with fees and postage it will be close.

As already said, none of the games or accessory support existed for the 360 on launch. Yep I'm with you and have ditched the XBox one from the living room and put the XBox 360 back in place. Really not living up to the hype.
I just find it so slow at doing anything. Forza takes ages to load between games and then as you say so few tracks it just gets a little bit dull.
iPlayer is missing too.
NetFlix and Lovefilm don't appear any faster, but do have only slightly better video.
What does it do really that is better than the XBox one? I think in 6-9 months time it might a different beast and worth the upgrade, but for now I have an expensive bit of equipment that will hardly be used.

I believe this is the correct answer. In a years time, there will start to be some awesome games. At the moment, the games that are being released on the PS3 / Xbox 360 are on hardware the programmers have had 7 or so years of working with. They'll know all the tricks of how to get the most out of what they have - hence GTA5 or GT6 etc (sorry I don't know many Xbox games but it will no doubt be the same sort of thing).
IMHO it's about 3-4 years into a console lifecycle the games start to get really, really good.
I'll hang off buying one until the next GTA game is due out!
Interesting that no one else has had the same problem as me, with the kinect picking up video sound. I redid the whole calibration thing a couple of times in 5.1 mode and it still does it. It /might/ be because of the placement of my kinect, I have it on top of the TV/AV stand which is under my wall mounted TV... and also on the top there (directly behind the kinect) is the centre channel speaker. Maybe it will work better if I mount the kinect up over the TV and leave the speaker on the table? Need to get a kinect bracket now...

Ok Rob we get it, Sony is the best company ever, PS4 is amazing, GT6s downfalls are actually plus points and everything you have ever wanted from a driving game ;-)Hmmm I just think that maybe I should have held off rather than just getting it now and being frustrated with it.
As for swapping to the PS4 other than playing the occasional bit of Killzone what can it actually offer me that isn't on the Xbox? It seems to me even if I did ship it out for the opposing console I won't gain a thing. Even the steam box looks less and less appealing with every article I read about it.

Stop rumbling me as the fan boy I am! To be fair, GT6 is no iRacing. Otherwise, nail on head ;-) But really, Sony didn't promise anything too fancy so unless you expected something unrealistic from a launch console then its happy days. New controller is an improvement, GUI is an improvement, chat is an improvement and live streaming/video sharing seems to work smoothly. Nothing earth shattering but its what they promised.
It always takes a few months/years for the quality releases to filter through, expecting anything else is just poor judgement. Goes for both consoles and fan boys of every flavour.
