The technical regulations for Kent engined Formula Ford cars show the maximum permitted width to be 1.85M across the rear wheels. Any idea how wide a typical car is, did they all tend to push the regs to the limit or are they narrower ? From what I remember most FF looked a fair bit narrower than 1.85.

I cant answer your question, but more serious people run spacers and different offset wheels to get to the maximum width allowed smile

I remember my Dad having to buy a set of spacesaver wheels to get his 1972 Alexis 18B onto his trailer. He had a Brian James Minno trailer at the time, I reckon the bed width would've been 5'9" and the rear axle of the car was a good couple of inches too wide. That was essentially a historic spec car too, so no silly wide tyres either- I think it was running 205s on the rear...

Most pre-90 cars won't be that wide. My 89 Mondiale is about 1.75M

Interesting re the Alexis. My HFF is totally to period spec and is about 2" narrower than most people I compete against. It does lose out in ultimate grip as a result, but is great in the wet.
