How To Send Wireless Signal From PC To TV
Discussion
I finally upgraded to a Panasonic TX-L42B6B at the weekend. Can anyone tell me the best way to play videos from my PC wirelessly to the TV. It's not smart TV & has no wifi connection.
Do I need something like this?

I guess I would also need something to plug into my desktop to send the wireless signal? It has a HDMI & DVI port on the graphics card but no wifi card (I plug an ethernet lead into the virgin wall socket)
I'm not interested in having the internet on the TV, I would just like to watch the odd downloaded TV show. The PC is about 10 feet from the TV. Help appreciated.

I'd suggest some sort of network streaming media player. Instead of sending the PCs display to the the TV you actually use the PC as a server.
Something like a WDTV device would be ideal for this. I'd suggest whatever streamer you do use is wired to your router rather than using wifi.
Another alternative would be a newer Blu Ray or DVD player as most of them these days include media streaming (both locally from a server on your PC and also online from iPlayer and other services)
Do you by any chance have any sort of games console? Both a PS3 and XBox 360 can be used as a media streamer and also have a good selection of media apps (Love Film, iPlayer etc)
The final choice could be a straight forward HDMI cable from your PC.

I do need to buy a blu-ray player. Can you recommend a suitable one with media streaming? I haven't had a console since the PS2.Something like a WDTV device would be ideal for this. I'd suggest whatever streamer you do use is wired to your router rather than using wifi.

What hardware/software do I need to fit to my PC if I get a media streaming blu ray player? It has no wireless function currently. It's running a i5-2320 3.00Ghz with 8GB Ram & Windows 7.
Alternatively can you point to a decent guide for beginners, thanks

The TV has an Ethernet socket, is the TV near your router?
I don't have a router. I plug the desktop into the NTL cable modem. As it's next to where the broadband enters my flat I've never bothered to upgrade to wireless. this is why I'm so clueless on sorting this out!Gassing Station | Home Cinema & Hi-Fi | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
