Mini john cooper works

Traded the Lexus today for a Mini jcw, dunno why, as up to a couple of weeks back I hadn't even thought about these as a viable alternative, Lexus is smooth quiet and comfy, then saw a local mini jcw popping and rasping its way around near me and thought, yup, that's for me
It's got what seems like all the toys and must have cost a fair whack when new 3 year's ago, double pan roof, chilli pack, lounge leather, media pack with a funky sat nav., xenons., climate etc etc, can't think of much else it could have had, been blasting around in it today and it's just comical, rides pretty decent, though obviously not Lexus smooth but absolutely fine on the 17"wheels, noise from the exhaust is addictive in sport mode, crackles and pops on the overrun and between gearchanges, inside is plush and the heated seats warm up rapidly, faster than the Lexus which I thought were fine, all in all I'm very impressed.

No idea how I'm gonna get the weekly shopping in the boot though

Looks nice - the cream is definitely my favourite colour on a mini.

I may consider a Cooper S D in a few months given how cheap they seem to be now!

Looking into getting one of these myself but I cannot seem to get a decent answer from anyone regarding the fuel. Does it run on unleaded or only on super? Also, does it get anywhere near the stated mpg figures?

Your's looks lovely though, saw one in white with the red leather interior on the mini cherished site and thought they really suited the colour compared to black.

Although I have a standard MCS, not a works, they can run on unleaded, but mine runs better on Super. I get an average of 35mg with a heavy right foot. They're too much fun to drive economically.

I used to have the same engine in the 207 GTi. best I could get was 34mpg over a tank, 38mpg on a run. Watch out for the dreaded cold start 'death' rattle

That sat nav looks... Unusable... I take it that you can change the display mode to something comprehensible?

Yes you can change the display, I'm still getting to grips with the computer side of things and how everything work's, with regard to fuel then yes unleaded but super or v power seems to be the choice juice as it makes the pops and bangs happen more ...switching through the settings yesterday it brought the average fuel consumption as 34mpg, whether that's accurate or not I'm not sure but certainly better than the 25 I was getting out of the Lexus.
Death rattle I'm aware of and mindful since I only have 3 month's cover.

I completely agree about the exhaust, I heard one not so long ago and that's the only reason it's on my list of future cars. IMO I don't like the white, but looks really nice none the less.

That's nice. I've never been a huge fan of the R56 but that looks better than most in cream (is it still pepper white?). The interior looks really good with that leather.

I had a supercharged Cooper S a few years ago. I'd never really considered MINI's before I drove a couple by chance....I ended up having three in a row! There was just something about them that I really like. I think you either get them or you don't.

Yes pepper white all over which seems unusual as I've not seen many without some contrasting roof and mirror caps.

OP have you driven the R53? Just wondering how these compare for interior space compared to the earlier Mini? I have the R53 which I love but sometimes wish i had a tad more space for the occasional passenger, and i really like the model you have purchased. Makes me think about maybe upgrading.

Not driven a 53, and to be honest the first modern mini I've set foot in is this one, but from what I gather the 56 is a more plush interior and a comfier ride compared to the more focused 53, but as I say that's only what I've gathered reading stuff in the build up to purchase.

I have a MCS with JCW kit, in Pepper white aswell, but my roof and mirror caps are black. Its odd to see it in all one colour.

Get some coilovers on it now.

I've driven both (had three R53's) plus various R56's when mine were I the garage. The R56 interior does feel better put together although I didn't think the materials felt superior which was one of the things the press banged on about at the time. There is a tad more space although it won't feel worlds apart. The R56 feels more BMW like; the read outs and hifi work and feel very similar to the BMW's of the same era.

For me the big improvements were to the One really which always felt a bit pointless in the fact that it cost the same to run as a Cooper but wasn't as quick.

The clutch, steering and gearboxes were much lighter / smoother in the R56 too.

Not really interested in Modding this car at the moment, yes the wheel gap could be smaller but I don't wish to affect the ride too much as its pretty acceptable currently,this may change as I get used to the car, but as of two days into ownership, it's staying as it is.

Even if they came an inch lower it would make a big difference to the way they look without affecting the ride too much, its firm as it is anyway, but yes it's bugging me a little and might have to change it, been trawling the Orranje site and I'm getting carried away with the mental spend.

The colour of the body against the plastic wheel arch trim doesn't help, infact it makes it look comically huge from a distance/untrained eye!
