No they don't. They have to sell a car that is of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose.

What the courts would deem "satisfactory quality and fit for purpose" on a nigh on 30 year old used car would probably be a long way short of what a decent warranty would cover.

I certainly would't fancy my chances buying it and then having to sue the dealer to fix something, which is what you have to do if he tells you to jog on.

Agree with you, the rest of the advert is crap though!

Lol pay to see pics? That's a new one on me! The rest of the ad isn't that unreasonable apart from test driving it with proof of insurance but no tax and MOT?

They seem to be very straight and no nonsense about what they are selling. Re the "warranty" you are selectively quoting. They also say that this is very clearly sold and will be invoiced as "spares or repair".

Everything has a price, you know what you are letting yourself into and bid accordingly.

It's an old car in the state it is in, which is up to you to inspect and confirm.

If you need hand holding this is not for you, but again, this is made amply clear.

Three cheers for the two fingers to PC these guys are giving.

Exactly - there's a pretty clear English 'disclaimer' at the bottom - sold as spares or repair.

Bar the charging for the pics bit that all seems absolutely fair enough, sadly its going to get to the stage where we're such a country of wkers that old cars will be getting scrapped rather than anybody risk selling them!

I actually really like that car but the ste wheels and mis-badging would cast serious doubts about the previous owner.

Anyone who doesn't understand the basic principles of when capital letters are appropriate doesn't deserve any business.

Ebay is particularly bad, do people think writing like that makes it easier to read? More attractive? All it does is annoy me and make me ignore the advert.

I'd imagine charging for the pics is to prevent time wasters asking for the 100 photos, which will obviously take forever and a day to email. Still a stupid thing to say though, there's enough pics to give you idea of the car as it is.

In order to comply with sale of goods act 1979 ,any vehicle sold on this listing, is not fit for any purpose other than for spares or repair, and all cars sold by us including this one, are invoiced as such. We will sell these cars for a lot less than other dealers and if you want warranties, fully valeted cars, proper aftersales service then we suggest you buy elsewhere, as such services come with a price. However ,before auction end you can come to us and test the car as long you need, valid car insurance is required.
That wasn't there before, that changes everything.

I think the charging for pictures things is done to stop timewasters. Many times I've sold a car and been asked for more pictures which I'm happy to supply but the enquirer had no intention of buying the car. I bet if you actually phoned that dealer/trader and asked for the paypal address to send the £5 to, they'd probably just send you the pics for free, knowing that you're a serious enquirer if you're prepared to pay £5.

Is this legal? I doubt it very much.

If they're selling it as "Spares or Repair" and pricing it accordingly I guess so. Even if it works perfectly fine, acknowledging that there could be issues with the vehicle and that it's bought at your own risk as they don't estimate how much this could cost to repair.

Also by offering potential buyer the opportunity to come and examine the vehicle prior to purchase they aren't hiding anything.

A dealer can certainly sell a car as "spares or repair". However (and I'm no expert, so bow to anyone who knows better) I would have thought the fact you can turn up, test drive it, and then pay significantly above scrap price for it puts this exclusion into dodgy territory.

Yeah, it can be sold as seen if sold for spares and repairs.
I think it has to be towed away though, you can't drive it off, that then gives a warranty again.
But the warranty has to be based on age etc.

Do you expect a warranty on (say) an engineless resto case C type Jag worth what, (if they were still to be found in that state), a couple of million? Or on simply a chassis plate to recreate a vintage Ferrari, again potentially worth many thousands?

What sort of warranty would you expect? Other than authenticity of course.

What you are "doubting" is that something that can not be warranted can not be sold.

As a previous poster wrote it will be a sad day when cars or any other item for that matter become unsaleable just because some buyer numpties need mandatory "protection" so no one can afford the risk of selling anything that is not still under factory warranty.

The ad is pretty fair to be honest, they have clearly laid out how the car is and how they are selling it to be repaired

What gets on my tits is dealers that really upsell a car as being amazing then put "TRADE SALE" or "SELLING ON BEHALF OF SOMEONE ELSE"

Your average numpty couldn't turn up and drive these away, only to discover lack of engine or actual car at some point after the deal is done. So no.
