Which do you think is quicker, a Dauer 962 or an Ultima GTR either with the 377ci 640 hp or 700 hp engine?

As stated the currect performance stats of the 640 hp GTR, it goes 0-60mph in 2.6 secs, 0-100mph in 5.5, 0-150mph in 11.8 mph, and a top speed of 231mph. Wonder what will the 700 hp GTR produce?

Depends entirely on the gearing chap.

Well until something else breaks the world record I would've thought it speaks for itself

www.fast-autos.net/dauer/dauer962.html

It has a claimed 0-200kph time of 7.2 seconds.

Lovely looking beast however
Although hardly in the price range I wouldn't think?

Strewth! $853,000 for something that looks like a MKII Ultima.

I saw a proper 962 racing in the "historic" Group C series at Daytona at the beginning of the year. It was a bit of a dream come true for me having followed the Jag v's Porsche battles at Le Mans in the late 80s but was way too young to actually go and watch. They are still phenominally quick cars and sound fantastic!

With the boost turned up on a proper race track a 962 should monster a road going Ultima like it was a Yugo!

Not bad for a car that's over 20 years old.

There's a company over here producing a 'replica' with some original parts for a customer - from the pictures I've seen it looks very well made but ultimately hideously ugly just like the original IMHO!

I think the same crowd are working on the Hulme F1 car which has a lot of styling cues taken from current F1 cars but with a two-seater enclosed cockpit.

I would take the Ultima GTR anyday over 962. Of course, I could afford a GTR too. Once I saved up another 20 grand, the car will be mine. However, the only thing I would like to improve for the GTR is its handling. If I could make it corner at 2Gs then I would be happy. Moreover, I would like the car to have more a neutral steering rather than understeer or oversteer... But definitely, I would go for the 700hp AS engine or a bit more like 750-800. If I'm going to drive a nice car, I rather own the fastest...

A 962s lap Donnington (std circuit not the GP) in around 62 seconds. I don't think that even GMan's Ultima on slicks could get within 10 seconds of that (the Master Motorsport Ultima racecar certainly couldn't).

It's not fair comparing an affordable road going supercar with one of the most sucessful sports racing cars of all time.

BTW If you ask nicely (and maybe buy a plane ticket) I'm sure that Ultima (or one of us) would be more than happy to demonstrate the eyeball popping handling of the Ultima. Until you've sat in it you have no concept...

With Rose-jointed suspension and slicks you should be able to acheive near-neutral setup with the correct setttings, I wouldn't mind betting near to 2G too, however ultimately the car will always eventually understeer with that much power going to the rear wheels and not very much weight up front.
The trick is setting the car up for the corner properly, if you're trying to "drive" the car through tighter corners with the throttle understeer is never far away
F1 cars understeer like through tight hairpins etc

My thoughts too. The 962 was concieved, designed, built and driven for one purpose only. To win races. And very good at doing so, as it turned out. It maybe 25-30 years old but it could still destoy ANY road car you wish to mention. Around the 'Ring or Le Sarth it would probably lap any road car, even one on slicks inside 4 laps.

Why do you think road cars have their own classes? TVR's, Zondas, 550 Ferraris 911 Porsches and C5 Corvettes are all well developed road-turned-race cars. They still can't hope to live with a purpose designed race car. The 962 was built for a purpose.

I for one can't wait for you to finish saving and building what you are suggesting! Why stop there? Plan on a sequential Hewland tranny like the Mosler Photon. Oh, well, then of course that costs $20k alone. Well how about a slick kinsler (or other brand) fuel injection to handle that tricky idle in a 650+hp NA engine.

Must check the build pages now. . .

$20,000 for a hewland- try $49,000 for a hewland LSG-A that is relaiable at over 29 hours at Le Mans!

I was thinking of the NLT-G's but I guess they would probably cost over $25K and only handle 500ft-lb not what is necessary for some of the top AS engines mentioned. Ear plugs would probably help.
