I don't give a toss what people think about what car I drive. However, sometimes people take things personally when you have objects that are perceived as being better than theirs. Luckily the people I work with at the moment are an alright bunch so what I drive doesn't concern them.

So have you guys ever experienced work colleagues/managers that are envious and in doing so changed there attitude towards you? Either good or bad.

Nope, no experience of attitude changes. Because I don't work with mentally challenged idiots smile.

Generally, no-one discusses cars at my work unless something goes wrong with theirs. On occasion there might be a colleague or student with a car that interests me, or they are interested in mine, but nothing other than chat.

Edited to add smile

My boss drives a MX-5 with a can of beans glued to its second rear spoiler. I turned up in a Veyron. Then I got promoted and poy roise.

Yes, millions of years ago. Two bosses in charge of our call centre (800 people) had C plated Cavalier 1.6L hatches. I had a 2 year old Alfa 75 1.8 on a D plate. Got me some funny looks that although because of Alfa depreciation it had cost me £3000.

Now, in my current job our office car park has a Jag XFR, Z4M, Alfa 147 and a 14 year old Punto. Look at my garage to see which is mine.

Clue, I'm the Sales Manager.

I once owned a 1.8 CDi Auto mk2 cavalier that had cost me one bottle of kwik save scotch, costing £6.64, and my boss was complaining that he'd spent £1000 on tyres for his X5.

Oh how we laughed.

My Dad used to have fun with this. He had left his previous job and got a very generous early retirement deal.

He was offered another job, when it became known in the industry he was at a loose end, so accepted a kind of full-time consultancy role with the new firm.

My dad always liked Volvos and when he took early retirement he ordered a new 940 Turbo. It was a week or two old when he started his new role, parking the car in the nearest space next to the entrance and opposite the bosses office.

After a few days he picked up on something not being right in the management team. There was a bit of fuss because apparently someone had been given a top spec Volvo 940, when the standard boss grade car was a 940 GL. What's more, whoever it was parked it right in front of the entrance to annoy everyone.

There were one or two petty people not best pleased when they found out it was my Dad. The boss, became a mate of my old man's and he stayed with the firm for a good few years - always getting a better Volvo than the boss.

When my Dad died, I arranged for a Volvo hearse and limo. His old mate and former boss was at the funeral. He said to me something like, "Was this Frank's idea? Having the last laugh? I'd bloody love a Volvo S80.....though not the 3 door one in black."

I would guess the answer to that is probably yes, based on the inane dribble that's been posted under the account name since 8th December laugh Unless the school the poster attends has broken up early for Christmas.

At my Wife's work a few years ago her boss had a new E320 CDI , image everyone's surprise when one of the admin women rocks up in a new Toureg. Boss goes WTF and nothing else is said.

2 years later Admin women's husband gets pulled by the bib in a lay by just outside Hull, just got off the boat with 100000 smuggled fags in the back of a 40ft container on his truck. Got 18 months banged up, the house taken by customs and exise, as well as a load of cash.

Turns out he had been at it for several years.

Now complains about been poor. the rest of us had to manage on honest earnings pmsl when I found out.

I have a 2005 9-5 Aero. My boss used to have a V-reg Audi A4 1.8 (so at that point, yes). We went to an event in convoy at the start of September and he had a chance to have a decent look at my car. Within a month or so he bought a brand new Astra GTC 2.0 diesel. In white.

I have had a few comments from various bosses on my car. I would say from that that it's better than a lot of theirs. At least the ones they bring to work wink

It does depend on what criteria you judge them by though smile

The manager has had 3 cars since I have had mine and I've lost count how many the big boss has. Mine is obviously far more durable.

Yes, but because it's less expensive they don't mind and it doesn't affect my pay rise.
