Booked into Austec (again)
Discussion
After sorting and replacing absolutely everthing that has needed attention so far, Ive booked my S back into Austec to sort the last of the gremlins out
They are going to sort the bad earth which cant be found (Hence I decided to take it back next week) and finally clean/replace the injectors which prevented the last ECU remap from being completed.
Then its back onto the rollers, and I'll have a proberly sorted S following Augusts rechip, and a car which pops and bangs a lot more than it does now, Woohoo!
Im taking the car in this Saturday, if I do come to Sundays meet it wont be in my S. (Might be able to get the butler to bring me in the stretch) Will do my best to make it though

The car must have cost you a fortune Rob!!
Just a quick question, realistically, if a car is set up properly with an efficiant fueling system, should it not pop and bang less? Because the mixture will be correct at all times?
You are right, On both counts
As I understand it, Austec strive to get the best drivability/power/torque and yes fueling too.
What Im doing is asking them to add extra fuel only on overrun to incite more pops and bangs. I dont think the popping/banging will affect the car's performance. The fueling will be more efficient under acceleration, but yes you are right... less so on overrun. So its all good

Is this sort of this easy to do on the V6?
Its a little 'max-power' ish, but i love the idea

You might want to give Austec a call. My car broke their rolling road yesterday !! They'd just finished mapping the ECU when a bearing went on the rolling road. PistonHeads have obviously worn it out ! It might take a few days to repair so probably worth checking with them - lucky the ECU map was finished - but will have to wait for the power run

I never saw it as max powerish myself, and have never heard a TVR owner suggest similar. It's just honest to goodness proper sports car grinfactor, something most TVR's do to a degree. And it seems (in forums and speaking to people) that the more the car pops and bangs, the more the owers grin. I certainly do
Have a look at this cerbie, which obviously sounds 10 times better in real life. Admitedly, the AJP V8 does pop quite a lot
http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tvr-cerbera/duxford/MOV00006.MPG
As I understand, a RV8/FordV6 wont pop in the same way nor as much as the AJP V8 either, but with sports pipes, no cats and a rechip its possible during the ECU remap to tell car to dump a little extra fuel on overrun, and if the car is warmed up, then you'll get the popping and banging
Most people see popping and banging as a benefit of a rechip, placing increased power, smoother throttle response, better fuel economy + easier town driving as being the main benefits. I see popping as being the reason to rechip/remap, with the other stuff being added benefits
I was dissapointed after last RR session with Austec, I wanted my car to pop & bang a lot more than it does, but it was not their fault, my injectors are shagged, and they did a good job remapping as best they could with the car I gave them.
I spoke to Austec this morning Wonky, they failed to mention the rollers, which I hope means they intend to have them fixed by wednesday/thursday next week

Wow Danny!! Your car must have some power!!! I need to use the fuel you're using!!
I must admit to a slight sense of satisfaction !!
Nothing like breaking the test gear ! ukbob said:

I'm sure they will by then - they've got a business to run !!

The last time I heard of a dyno being broken by a TVR was Wheeler's story about the Speed 12 in testing.
Very impressed![]()

Pops & Bangs are surely a positive by-product??
Yes, pops and bangs are nothing more than an added bonus from a remap, but the car should not pop and bang more after a remap... unless you ask that it does. I think

Just make sure your car goes after mine, if you're booking in again
