Anyone know where I can get a catch (both bits)?
It's always been a bit crap but now I can open it just by looking at it biggrin

Try tightening up the securing bolts holding the thing in place. Mine is stiff to open and just holds itself in place

I'll second the B&Q loft catch. It's made from metal so is much better.

Here's a couple of (not very good) pictures showing it's vastly superior to the original plastic item:

Cheers everyone. I thought it would be something simple. B&Q loft catch is funny though.

Had a new alarm fitted last week and had to grin at the heater pipes behind the dash.....B&Q plumbing I think biggrin

Chassis is being coated in the new year and then onto the hood. I think that can be repaired/re glued with a new window. Any suggestions for a place in Birmingham/Midlands area?

Anyone used these?>> http://www.thehoodguys.co.uk/

They also break the first time you use them unless you get them lined up dead right.

my solution is a brass cupboard catch. About £1.50 been there for 6 years now.

^^^^^^^
As long as the catch isn't actually broken just tighten the hinge pins to achieve the desired friction.

Thanks for the replies. I'll take a look later. The one I have is metal so it's obviously been firkled at some point.

My '92 pre-cat had a metal catch just like the one in the pictures. I replaced it with a pair of neomidibium (spelling??) magnets. They work fine, can post pics if they would help.

By very odd coincidence I was in B&Q last night and on their 'sales' trolley was one of these catches.
For just 50p

It's reason for being in the sale?

"it's a bit stiff" is what it says on the label

Perfect. I just had to didn't I.

I think what you are looking for is this little tinker:

http://www.diy.com/nav/fix/nails-screws-fixings-ha...

It has been the subject of a few threads in the past. My catch fell apart about a year ago and so I went out and bought one of these. When I got it back and offered it up I reckoned it was a bit too big and ugly to sit in the glove box and (I thought) would take quite a bit of lining up to actually get working properly.

I ended up buying some neodymium magnets, which work OK but not entirely satisfactory. I probably bought the wrong ones because the difficulty is finding a fixing without stripping down the glove box, reinforcing it with glass fibre and then making good the leather, which I didn't do at the time because I wanted to drive the car, not spend time on the glove box.

My current plan on my rebuild is to go back to the original TVR push to close, push to open, latch but see if there is a more robust version and then to spend some time lining it up properly as well as get those bolts on which it hinges properly lined up and tightened - there seems to be quite a selection of these catches available, including the Southco one. I just need to choose the most robust (prices don't seem to be a problem, they all seem to be about a third of the TVR price, which itself is not a killer) - I will report back as and when I have something to report back on.

If you can't wait then Google "push to close latch" and see what you get, there seems to be plenty out there. I liked the look of the Wixroyd E3400 but the only thing puts me off is that you have to make up your own strike plate (the other bit with the nobble on it) and I haven't made further enquiries to see if you can buy separately. The easy option is, of course, buy the whole lot from Clever Trevor and spend time lining it up and making it work proeperly.
