DeDietrich ovens.......

Hi folks,

Does any body have experience with DeDietrich ovens, specifically this one?

My girlfriend and I are having a new kitchen fitted and will be buying our own appliances, we like the look of the DeDietrich stuff and like the features, especially self cleaning, but is it worth the extra outlay over a 'standard' high street brand?

Poor warranty is what caught my eye firstly.

In a previous life, Cookers (albeit just gas ones) were part of my remit.

Back then, price was dictated by the amount of features the appliance was alledged to be able to do.

Hardly surprising, makes sense, but fact was,a high range appliance from maker "A" , whilst offering more,
generally tended to be of no more quality then the cheaper, less competent models in their range.

A friend of mine has just installed something similar to what I would do if buying now, a 6 burner gas hob, and 2 built in
electric fan ovens (600 mill) which run off 13 amp supplies.Both ovens also have in cavity grill function. Cannot quote the brands
involved, but total cost (un installed) was way south of £1000.

Perhaps no good to you, with the kitchen design perhaps as writ, but be aware, like a lot of things, high prices may just be an indicator of
slick profit rich marketing.

I had De Dietrich appliances.

Never again. They were poor quality for the money.

Worse still was the appalling "customer service" when things went wrong.

They went wrong a lot.

I'd look for something else.

Not used a De Dietrich oven, but we have had a De Dietrich induction hob for about 8 years and it has been excellent.
Very reliable (so I can't tell you about warranty claims or spares prices) and very good quality (glass top has taken some real abuse over the years, and has stood up to it very well)

Not good.

Their branding and design is but their reliability isn't.

Look at this Gorenje oven. I have two and they are brilliant.

The parents have a DeDietrich oven. They like what it does but will be the first to admit that it's been very unreliable. They've had to have it repaired four times in just over six years.

We had one installed late 2009 with a fagor induction hob. As I understand fagor and DeDietrich were related. The oven was as below

for the 3 years we were in the house we had no issues with either - We used about 10% of the oven features though and only ever did one rotisserie chicken.

Fagor was the parent company. I say was, as it has recently gone bankrupt - http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/10/16/spain-fa...

Having said that, it is part of the Mondragon group which is huge so I expect there will be a rescue deal. It would make me worried about parts supply until that's all resolved though.
