Any advice on running in for a new owner? How long before it loosens up a bit, and gets a grip? I've got a stupid fixed grin on my face that won't budge and I'm not sure if that's now a permanent fixture or whether it settles down over time?

Pictures will follow.. but she's been all mine for a whole 3 hours now..

ps.. if anyone does have a sensible suggestion re-running in, I'd be happy to hear it.

Welcome Jon, just for clarity it might be helpful if you say what car you are talking about - I assume you are not running in one of Avinalarfs ladyboys, for example? wink

Assuming its an AM car is it not in the handbook? Been 4 years since I carefully nurtured my Vantage through the running in period (together with one or two brown trouser moments rolleyes ) and I can't remember the miles but I do recall my dealer telling me the ECU governs the engine speed to stop over revving until that magic moment arrives.

Why not give the dealer a quick ring, or its an excuse to read the manual? In any event I wish you the very best with it, they are magnificent cars.

Unfortunately , we are not blessed with an oil temperature gauge so I would suggest at least 5 to 6 miles before you give your new pride and joy some stick. When you fire her up do not leave her idling , just go! Bear in mind our engines are bench run so other than the paranoia that all of us experience when we first take ownership, drive it! Love it you will not hurt it. biggrin

The post was more a light hearted dig at myself and the stupid look I had on my face. I DO need to read the book however.. sat outside the pub trying to start the thing as the bit around the key went red.

Its a V8S.. if that matters

Take the key out, put it back in again with your foot on the clutch. If you are not manual , foot on brake, then she will fire up . Then go home and congratulate yourself for being a lucky bd.

Congratulations Jon and welcome to the madhouse. The stupid grin is permanent I'm afraid. I also have what my wife calls my Aston Martin glow when ever I'm anywhere near it.

Gentle acceleration and revs below 5000 for the first 500 miles and then progressively Open her out over the next 500. Get the camera out please!!!
