Anyone know what the 5 speed box in my 1983 wedge is?

V8's have a BL LT77 box

I believe you an R380 also fits... Apparently a more solid unit.

Does this throw any light on the subject?

Fits, but 'some' work involved, like changing the prop shaft etc: it is not a straight swap.Costs are not low to do it (box changes etc). The LT77 is not too bad either, but that is only my personal opinion. If issues with the LT77 would recommend rebuilding and it will be fine for many years. And a few things can be upgraded, so even less worries.

If it's a 280, then 5 speed gearbox is most probably a Ford type 9, from a Capri, or Granada, or possibly a 2.3 Sierra.

If 280i my post is not relevant......, it is only for v8s.

Probably from a 2.8 Granada, type 9. We have one on the garage floor at present alongside the 4 speed unit we intend to swap with.

Well mate you might as well rebuild the engine that came with it as i know someone with a bolt on and go Sprintex S102 blower kit with EVERYTHING you need....Go nice with that oversized alloy rad and fan...biggrin
