Evening all,

Currently drive a BMW 330ci convertible alongside my TVR Chimaera. I've had the BMW for over a year now and don't enjoy it as much as I hoped I would. It's probably a bit too sensible for my liking.
I've been looking for a replacement and am quite tempted by an XK or XKR convertible.
My budget would be up to about 25k for one, so am I better off in the XKR or would I enjoy the XK enough? Also, I'm 25, so just thinking am I too young for one of these? I don't have much of a commute so the mpg issue doesn't bother me, just as long as the car is fun enough to justify it.
Interested in any thoughts r advice anyone might have, cheers!

I drive a 57 plate XKR cab, had it nearly three years and it's been faultless, great GT car but also my daily driver.

I'd drive something like a 911 to compare though, the XKR definitely feels bigger to drive and I subsequently don't drive mine as enthusiastically as I have previous sports cars.

Deciding what to replace mine with at the moment and it's probably going to be another, later XKR.

Do you need a big boot?

You can get a year newer/lower milage coupe than a cab for same money. For me the coupe looks better, but depends on what you like. The cab is a lovely occasion car.....

Hi Olly

I have a Chimaera as well and last Feb I got a XK cab. Very pleased with it . Totally different to the TVR which is more of a drivers car. The XK is great to drive and just eats up the miles. I think the Coupe looks slightly better but to have the hood down option is more that worth it.
I decided not to go down the XKR route at the time but its the same argument as the 400/500 in the Chim world. How often do you get to really use the power

The XK seems pretty quick if pressed and its a big lump to get away from the lights. Both are quick cars but are large to be thrown around but they come into their own when cruising and you feel like a bit of extra oomph. You just have to breath on the pedal and its doing an extra 30mph or so.
Dont worry about the age thing as most of TVR owners are of an older demographic.

The only problem might be is deciding which of the V8s to take out.

Hi OP, I wish I had been in your position back at 25 although XK8's and Chims weren't around then. I have a 500 Chim and recently picked up a 2002 XK8 coupe for general schlepping duties. I love the Jag, it's great looking and a very nice place to be but worlds away from the Chim to drive, truly chalk and cheese. Of course you're looking at a much younger and peppier Jag, but I think you'll benefit from the contrast in attributes of the cars especially if you plump for the coupe, it's super comfortable and will provide a more practical alternative choice, it still gets noticeable admiring looks which I wasn't expecting.

Hi everyone - thanks for all the replies.

Have come to the conclusion that right now having one of these alongside the TVR is pushing it a bit too far. Too much work I need to do on the Chimaera without running the Jag at the same time - think I will have to hold off for a while.
