Is anyone else like me? I can't stop buying hardware that I have no time to use.

I've got a PS3, Xbox 360(x2!), Xbox One, PS4, Wii U, and today I bought a Vita.. and I don't even like games really. I never sit down and play them apart from a few exceptions.. but I can't stop buying the sodding things.

I have played the XBOne, PS4 and Vita for a total of about 2 hours.. and feel like I can't even be bothered to look at the coming soon games to see what I could buy as I'm bored to death with holding a controller.

Anyone else just have to have the things, or has anyone else been like that, and sold-up and not regretted it?

Bleh.

I've never seen the attraction of games and consoles, despite trying a few over the years. I guess I just get bored too quickly - either that or I am rubbish at them, and have a short attention span!

However - if you like them and buy stuff related to them - even more stuff than you want / need - it's no different surely from the people who spend way too much money, on here, on things like watches and cars, no?

Hilariously I whinge to the wife that I don't have enough money to fix up my cars as I'd like.. yet I've spent over a grand on stupid computer thingies in the last month.

I used to love games - I spent all of my tenage years and a whole lot of my twenties playing them - and loved every minute.

So you say you 'used to love them' - what's changed now? Do you not love them anymore? How come? Maybe you're spending and spending to try to get something from them that you USED to get, but don't anymore because you've maybe changed a bit as a person?

No I tend to stick to the one console. Now I have a PS4 the PS3 won't be switched on I suspect.

Time, I think. I played all of the story of GTAV lately, but nothing much else - 2 missions in Battlefield 4, 5 minutes of this, 5 minutes of that.

I still spend a bit of time in racing sims, but that's another story.. wink

I played Teraway for 3 minutes, and for every second of that I was thinking 'hurry up and reach a save point, so I can get back to work'.

I'm a bit like that, but I usually trade in old stuff for new stuff. PS2 went in for a 360. 360 went in for an Xbox one. I think when I got my PS3 a whole bunch of stuff went in for it and I paid for the whole thing in trade ins, there was a white iPod, Nintendo DS, a whole bunch of games and a few accessories. But I do have the Xbox One, PS3 and Ouya sitting under the tv at the moment, a Vita, iPad and android Hudl tablet and iPhone for handhelds.

I suspect that you have a high disposable income.
It's yours to do what you want with.
As long as you are not skimping on the things that really matter then it's nor really a problem and you ate just
Enjoying the benefits of consumerism.
When you are finished though sell them or give them away, don't bin them.

I did this with the Wii U. I was doing a job with a rubbish commute and was on call. Figured I'd treat myself because I really wanted to play ZombiU. Then picked up Lego City and now the Wii U has gone from black to grey.

I did pick up a PS4, but sold it to my friend as there wasn't enough of a difference between that and the Xbox One at launch.

I've become better at picking and choosing my gadgets since.

Ok then - so if you don't mind me saying, might be that you need a change of hobby? (although I guess you may have thought of that already)

Would Sir be interested in doing his motorbike test and buying a big, real bike to use and enjoy on the roads?

Or maybe something along the lines of kite-surfing, sailing, water-ski-ing?

Thought about that? They seem like the kind of things you'd be good at?

I've recently bought an old racing car which I am going to race in 2014, so that should take some of my time smile

Just been chatting to the wife about it. Despite always considering myself a gaming nerd, and buying all of this junk, none of it really gets used - I've just checked my steam account stats, and I've got 308 games, bought over the last 8 years, 82% (254) of which I've not ever installed or played, and my total game-play time across those last 8 years is only 298 hours.

Eek!

Indeed! So, might be time to step away from it then?

How would you feel though, if - say for instance - I was able to come into your house and say to you... "right - that's enough - I am taking all this gaming gear away from you, and you are not to have it back ever again - and you must now concentrate on other hobbies and your new race car...?"

Would you be cool with that, or would it be a problem psychologically do you think?

Deffo a problem! Ha ha. I just think I like the hardware more than the software. Just counted. I have 8 ps3 games, 7 360 games, and 4 wii games.

I have a 5 year old so I get more fun out of the Wii at the moment as she can play with me (or rather, I can watch her play and help her!).

I'm just the same but worse, I get very little time to play on my consoles and I have literally dozens of games still in there cellophane and I still keep buying them. I'm even buying games on the steam sale, I have no idea when I will play them, if ever...

Even worse I've started collecting consoles from the 90's, I recently bought a Panasonic 3do ffs!

I reckon you're looking for something but you don't know what. Not much help but no point in wasting more money unless you have some idea what you're looking for. Have you tried collecting watches? evil

You could sell that lot and buy another car lol.
Does sound a bit like a "first world problem" though, especially as you just bought a racing car....

I bought both the consoles, including all the accessories and other crap and didn't play either of them, can't get used to the gamepad. When the Vita came out I bought a 600 quid package with games and all the bells and whistles for the OH, I thought she'd love it, went in the drawer and hasn't been seen since.

I also regularly by a new PC (every couple of years), I drop down all the menu boxes in the configuration page and select the highest of everything, then tick the highest overclock package. This has resulted me twice having burned out power supplies where the bloody things just can't cope, the PC company will never advise you against spending more money. The first thing I do when I get them is obsessively run Fraps and see how many frames I can squeeze out of them, I'm not happy unless it's at least 5 times more than I'll ever need. I also have two all in one printers on my wifi indoors, why?

Only me and the GF live here yet I have 4 PC's, 2 laptops, 1 netbook, 2 iPads, 2 printers, 3 smartphones, a PS3, an xbox, a full sonos system in every room and a partridge in a fecking pear tree.

It's a disease.

Anyone want to buy a Vita?
