Going to live gigs on your own a bad idea?

I went to watch Prodigy yesterday at the Warehouse Project in Manchester. My brother bought the ticket but had to go and told me to go which I thought fair enough to. I like their music but not enough to warrant going so I thought I'd just go for the hell of it. I drove there and had no intention of drinking so I would rive back to my hotel in Manchester.
I am in my young twenties, I rarely go to clubs or anything. All I know is dress code is fairly important to some places, as I had never been I decided to go smartish, shirt, formal type jeans and brown shoes.
Went through the first barrier where they check the ticket and driving license and I was asked if I am on my own, I said yes. The chap told me to go left and see another guy. This guy approached me and asked how I got here, can I see your car keys, who am I with and am I meeting anyone etc. Said I drove, on my own and no plans to meet anyone. All normal, I did think I looked a bit out of place so I just answered is questions and expected to be let on my way.
I was upgraded to a new guy, so had to move somewhere else for a new person to talk to me.
Same questions were asked, more pressure on, so you are on your own and came here on your own? I said yes and explained I drove won't drink etc. I then asked where people are allowed to come on their own here as it seems a bit weird that everyones asking the same things. **** hits the fan with this question, this guy goes into ultra defence mode and threatens to kick me out of here for failing the attitude test. I am utterly shocked at the point but just go quiet and apologise for my question. He then began trying to provoke a reaction but I kept quiet, I was bang on sober so I knew what was going on. Another guy joined us and the guy goes, this chap has come on his own, he is very aggressive etc. I didn't say anything.
I was moved to a mobile office, one guy and 2 police officers. Everything went back to normal, these guys were alot more professional and explained that Warehouse project tight on security and we just want to do some checks. Same questions, check of driving licence, asked about where I am staying etc, I showed him my booking on my mobile which cut everything down, frisked me and I was let on on my way.
Clearly there is something wrong with going on your own to one of these places? Learnt something new that's for sure!

king MILE no wonder someone wanted to make sure you weren't lost. Certainly doesn't excuse the sWhat the actual feck??? Seriously???
I learned a long time ago that going to gigs on my own was the best way to go. Total freedom of movement, go where you wanna go in the crowd - barge to the front, get pushed around and a little beat up with the moshers at the front - great! Decide to go for a piss / get a beer - just do it! All to be enjoyed without having to worry about anyone else who might be with you, and whether they're ok - what they want to do, etc, etc...
Been doing this for years, at all kinds of different venues - and not once have I even been asked a question like this, let alone been subject to a whole Spanish Inquisition

I work in the Event Industry. In my younger years one of my jobs for an events company was to go to gigs and report about numbers, type of crowd, the vibe of the act ect ect.
On a few occasions I went by myself and I have been stopped by bouncers. I asked the bouncers who worked for our company and they explained that its more than likely due to the fact that the type of people who spike ladies drinks tend to come to clubs alone. They are extremely wary and cautious of this and are just trying to be proactive in making sure you are not a whack job.
Its possible the bouncers could of treated you better, some are power trippers, others are cool but all are their for your safety. Its extremely unlikely they won't help if you get into trouble.
Out of 1500+ at the event, im sure you were one of the only to attend by yourself.

I'm pretty sure they thought you were dealing. Been in a club before when dressed a bit smarter than the rest of the crowd and had full wallet and shoe search when going in followed by an endless stream of monks trying to buy pills off me all night. If only I'd had a pack of paracetamol I'd have made a fortune...
I've never been to WHP. It seems like a big chav-fest and the people who attend aren't there to 'appreciate' the music. Didn't a couple of lads die a few months back due to a dodgy drug they took there? I can kind of expect that level of interrogation after that, especially to a chap on his own!
I went to see Two Door Cinema Club on my tod last week. I was supposed to be going with my brother but he got caught up in work so couldn't go. They're one of my favourite bands and they haven't got any planned tour in the near future so I figured I might as well go since I'd paid for it. I skipped the first support act as I'd never heard of them and I wanted to avoid rush hour traffic. Went for the second support act (Swim Deep) as I know who they are and like their stuff. There was a slightly awkward 30 minutes looking down at my phone pretending I'm texting before TDCC came on but once they came on, every was focussed on them anyway.
I had no trouble at all with security. They were checking people's bags but letting everyone else go straight through. If they asked me if I was alone I'd probably have told them I was meeting with someone inside. However being a Thursday evening, I don't think they were expecting any trouble, and TDCC aren't really a band that attracts chavs. Anyway, sober and alone, it was worth going!
