My 8 year old has gone bonkers on simulator games he can download onto our Windows 7 pc. He likes things like bus/train/plane/ship ones but despite me telling him only to download Mircosoft ones, he's selecting all sorts of cr@p which keep infecting my pc with at the very least stuff I do not want, and also the odd virus or two along the way.

He's very keen on the Mircosoft Flight Simulator X game at present but we seem to be having trouble downloading it in anything but the Free Demo version. He wants the full version as the free one does not have enough variety for him. Anyone used this and know where I can buy the download? On the Microsoft website the download bit then says you need the original version first which is not on there??

Also any suggestions for him with links he can download to say £20 per game. It needs to stick within his pocket money prices!

He's got ShipSim already.

Buy it off Amazon.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Flight-Simulator-Gold-Edit...

Its the last of the simulators, microsoft will not be doing it anymore and your not going to have anyone else doing similar to such a high standard. Make sure you have the spec's for the game. Its heavy on the PC and the first comment is true but fixable.

X-plane is good but not microsoft standard.

Edit

Also, Try Euro Truck Simulator 2 on Steam. Decent game.

Try getting microsoft flight sim with acceleration pack, the pack is basically similar to a major windows update & was M$ last before peeing about with flight which they dropped not long after.

once you got the above its still pretty st, the add-ons some freeware most payware or hacked add immensely to the series, goto avsim.com/net for more info within thier sub forums, some notables are rex orbx pmdg etc.

The more powerful your pc the better especially cpu horsepower. start of a long journey.

My son loves this: http://www.farming-simulator.com

There's a demo version on the same site.

OK, not quite as in depth/accurate as MS Flight Sim but my lad loves the trading side of things.

Thanks. Downloaded this and I've not been able to drag him away from the pc all day.

Been able to get on with Christmas dinner prep without any hindrance, so a big thank you from both of us hehe

Don't buy it yet, they'll most likely drop it to 75% off one day before the sale is done. Just keep an eye on it. It is also fairly gpu heavy though.

To control the downloading issue, give him a limited account so he cant install programs without Admin permission

Surgeon simulator is currently only £1.74 - http://store.steampowered.com/app/233720/

Boob jobs probably come with a 3rd party add-on hehe

No idea what it's like though.

Woodcutter simulator sounds pretty...good smile

http://store.steampowered.com/app/267610/

The Simulation section on Steam has a good variety of farming/flying/driving ones which is probably the best bet.

EDIT: Forget Woodcutter simulator, the next big thing will be Roadwork simulator! Sounds like a bargain at only £6.77

My 9 year old loves this,he's already doing heart transplants

FSX is cheap in Game too, definitely get the Gold/Acceleration pack, then he can download literally Terrabytes of free planes and scenery from Flightsim.com, before he rapes your wallet for the paid stuff. At this time of year you do get a lot of sales, but no need to pay extra as free stuff should keep him going for a long time.

Has he tried Train Simulator too? That might be in the Steam sale too

Well, he is 8 years old now, I think he can handle some gun related sims....

DCS world is the place to be, A10 in particular is exceptional and the DCS website have a lot of sales on from time to time so you can pick up the games at 20 quid a pop.

You can download the DCS world part for free, just the various modules that cost, I think the frog foot is free.

There is of course world of tanks, free to play, not massively sim like but good enough, it is a little bit like crack though.

Take a look at the IL2 series some of the best WW2 flight action. Plus Rise of Flight is free to play (you get a handful of planes and quick missions) its a WW1 flight sim.

Il-2 is only 3 quid on Steam right now,then1946 version includes all the add one like the Pacific, and the jets. Definitely worth picking up
The slightly more modern Battle of Britain game cliffs of dover, is a fiver....I may need to get it now I've seen it.
Rise of Flight is half price too, but I got it and the button to register an account is way off the bottom of the screen, and no way to scroll down smile
