Lost V5 / log book - still possible to sell somehow? Speed up replacement?
Discussion
Just selling my car and I may have found a buyer. I now can not find the v5 anywhere. Based on buying new cars it seems to take about 2 weeks to get a new v5 though, not sure if the replacement service is any quicker.
Is there any way of either speeding the process up, or, is there some other way I could legally transfer ownership without a v5?

Nope, you'll have to wait for DVLA to sort it - and that might take even longer at this time of year.[quote]or, is there some other way I could legally transfer ownership without a v5?

V5 doesn't prove ownership legally anyway. It says across the top the registered keeper is responsible for mot and taxing the vehicle, that is all.If the buyer is happy to buy without a V5 then they can just apply for a V5 here
http://www.direct.gov.uk/prod_consum_dg/groups/dg_...
The receipt you give them stating date, time ,reg, car details, names, addresses, sale price etc and signed by both of you is enough to prove ownership.
Make sure you keep a copy each.
If they wont buy without the V5 then you need to apply yourself and get a replacement. You can get a duplicate by ringing
