I've got a W124 which has just had a replacement electric aerial fitted. On first use, it rose when the radio was turned on, but stayed up, even with the radio off, until the ignition was off. Since then, it rises and falls exclusively with the ignition. Is this right?

Previously my aerials have been linked to turning the radio on and off. I'm trying to establish whether this is correct.

Just checked on my 124- the aerial operates with the radio rather than the ignition. I should point out it has a modern Kenwood radio, but it will be having the original Blaupunkt that was in the boot when I bought it last month reinstalled, so whether the aerial operates as original I can't confirm.

Thanks Stegel. I think mine may have been wrongly-wired. I'll speak to the garage tomorrow.

Are you going to post pics of your new purchase?

If its an RDS radio the aerial will stay up so it can receive traffic announcements

I will do - in need of a wash after the journey up from Hampshire last month, and just have not had time- a job for the Christmas hols, then I'll pop some pictures up. Have to say, I can really see the origins of the 124 "bug" - totally smitten with it just by the drive home, even if the roll on roundabouts took me by surprise (and it's a Sportline!).
