I need to rewire the rear lights, it's a mess back there and I have no idea what's meant to be earthed and what's not. Then 2 little holes in the back box and were ready to go. Have a feelin the wiring may take some time
Hi Ben You may find it useful to do what I did after some advice from Adrian
The light housings are earthed however the bulb holds often have problems gaining an earth connection either from corrosion or other.
The Answer is to change the Bulb holders to ones that have an earth connection as well as live connection then create an earth wire that goes from the earth wire on the housing to each bulb holder a bit like how you earth up the dash dials one to another

Hello Prince of the Darkness.
I am just doing the wiring, also in the back.
Bulbholders with earthing I do understand.
Why not earthing direct to the frame in stead of first to the housing?
And why is the thicker black wire for earthing all the back lights and petrol tank, running all the way to the front in stead of directly to the frame nearby?
Luckily all the wiring in my Vixen is color coded.
And has someone the info/name for a good connector I want to put between the cabling harness and all the front-lights/indicators for easy disconnecting when taking off the front (hopefully never). The ones I have seen up to now are flimsy.

How about a 7 pin trailer plug and socket?Passed MOT today so tax from Jan 1 and we're back in business after a re-spray, re-trim, re-wire that took a little longer than expected

In answer to your question for the front wire connectors
My 3000s is the only one at the moment with a quick release bonnet and it is really useful and gets used a lot when I went and had her tuned the other day Andys comment was I wish all cars had this fitted.
Hence my plan is to convert the Vixen and the Tuscan the same way once I decide on the best release set up as its a bit different than the M series Chassis.
My Wiring uses two of these one either side as with the heater fan on the bonnet frame there is need for two the same as Philpots set up.
You may find one will be enough just depends how you decide to route the wires.
They are trailer Cable extender sockets and work really well I know some use other smaller lighter ones and I am sure they will share the info but I prefer these.

Good and strong solution Andrew.
Hopefully I can find a finer small item as you say.
I assume the number of connectors is sufficient?
1) driving lights
2) indicators
3) earthing
4) small lights ( under headlamp)
5) spare
I can remember for the caravan we had 5 or 7 pins and the latest model 13.
But these are big and lumpy.
I will see.

Hi prideaux
Thanks for the advice, I was actually thinking that, indicators are easy because they have 2 wires, but the clusters have a load that go to the main brake point and then singles to indicators and reverse. Do you have links to replace the bulb holders?
Cheers
Ben

Sorry I took mine down my local car accessory shop and said I wanted some of these but with there own earth points and one of them said none there then the other guy said he had seen some somewhere years ago and went upstairs and half an hour later appeared down with a few plus I think Adrian sent me a couple but I am not sure if he has any maybe worth asking in the new year.
I think I used doubles on them all including the indicators.
If others have any ideas as to a source please shout
Andrew
