Crappy morning really as left home to drop the wife off at work, with a plan of popping to the shops for last minute bits and bobs for crimbo., so first bit OK as wife now at work, zip down 1 junction of the M42 to get to my local supermarket, and suddenly the car in front jolts to one side clearly trying to avoid something in the road, unfortunately I see it too late in the dark and run over what I thought was a rock in the middle lane at 70mph (honest) ....think WTF! And then feel the rumble and drone of an obvious flat ...madmad
Pull over luckily to a SOS phone and ring the highways authority, then realise that the car that I've only had since Tuesday is no longer on its original runflats (mini jcw) therefore does not have a spare fitted, and to bugger that idea anyway its ripped both front and rear ns tyres to bits ....
So phone call to AA to join and get recovered and two new tyres later I hit the shops which are fking rammed!!

Bloody Christmas

But on the upside no real damage to either myself or the car just a bit colder, wetter, and poorer than I'd want to be.

Where did you buy the car from? If a MINI dealer, you should have got 12 months breakdown cover.

He got recovered, it is the cost of 4 tyres that is the bummer.

Luckily, my missus only needed 1 this morning...

Yes didn't buy from a mini dealer and its just the cash outlay so close to Christmas that's bumming me off, could have been worse but why was there such an object left in the road annoys me more.

There is never a good time for that, I went through a spell of getting continuous punctures and they only ever seem to happen in the dark, when raining or snowing.

I managed to hit a kerb and destroy a tyre this time last year. Just found the receipt for it today! Hoping nothing like that happens this year...

I know how you feel, 1 large bolt in a rear tyre on my motorhome last week. I needed to get it sorted as well as we are going away just after xmas. 2 new Toyo H09 Winters - £204. Could have been a Google Nexus 7 tablet for the family for xmas.

Yes, I came out to my car after work the other night to find I had a flat. So £350 on a pair of new tyres a week before Christmas.

To be honest though, the old ones were about finished anyway and the car drives a lot better now.

The tyre had a nail through the middle of the tread. It actually looked like it had been there for some time and only now started leaking.

Did you take out tyre insurance when you purchased the car?

I could be burnt as a heretic here but why not just replace the wrecked tyres? I've driven cars with 3 oldish tyres and one new one, it gets very expensive otherwise if you are somewhere that is puncture prone.

I'll be nipping to GSF (or similar) for a new alternator and a wheel bearing today. That should cover the latest crop of crap.

Happy hols one and all!

Can you even do that? Probably not worth it for most. In 10 years of driving I've probably only spent about £900 or so on tyres.

Is it really worth insuring £90 a year?

Jacked the car up today to inspect the underside, and aside from a small flap hanging loose in front of the nsf wheel there is no damage, wheel gaps are the same and the car drives fine. Could have been a whole lot worse having two tyres blow at 70mph in the middle lane, and aside from the financial impact and standing in the cold morning air for a bit its OK.
Will say though having to sit in the passenger seat in order to be able to talk and hear someone on the phone was one of the most nerve wracking experience of my life, and I couldn't wait to get out of there to the embankment, truely frightening the way the traffic thunders by so fast and SO close.
