Used my 1993 Daimler this morning, and the gearbox locked in 'park' on me. Couldn't happen at home, had to happen on a pay and display time limited parking spot in town centre rolleyes

Luckily a relatively local specialist that I have never used before was able to pop out within two hours, and with a star shaped screwdriver, metal rod and the knowhow unlocked it within seconds. He has taken the car away to investigate the problem which I am fine with, he mentioned possibly a solenoid.

I'm not really mechanically minded so wondered what you guys think might be the problem.

Cost me a £30 taxi to get home by the way curse

Is a solenoid expensive to repair/replace?
