Hi all,
Can anyone recommend anywhere in or around the Leicester area that can sleeve my exhaust?
I have the know how, but no kit to do it, so it's easier to just pay someone.
Will the mod cause me problems when it comes to MOT time?

Other recommendations for exhaust mods are welcome, and if anyone in the Leicester area could spare the time for me to listen to theirs, I would be most grateful!

As long as you leave the main cat in the Y-piece then you should have no MOT issues ... just sleeving the exhaust can be a bit "tugboat like" for some people but I like it...

You could ask Paul at Prestige Performance Cars at Melton Mowbray. He's a TVR specialist and sells all the Leven bits we all love. If he doesn't do it himself he will know who does.

Can't really help here but mine has a de cat Y and its too loud, mate try and get to hear Seeby's car that's got a sleeved exhaust and original y piece, well it did a year ago and i can honestly say it sounded brill. De cat Y is much better at speed and offers a considerable increase in power,,,,,,,, but how often do you drive at 4000+ revs!
I grew up around racing and I'm half deaf because if it, to my mind I'd try to get a drive in a car with said pipes already done so you can make an informed judgement.
Mine is so loud that if you stand behind it on tickover your ears suck in and out! When I was 20 that's cool as fk but now I'm nearly 50 it seems abit daft and most people view me and my car as obnoxious!!!!!! I'm well obnoxious but my car shouldn't be! Its all down to the owners choice but the driving experience can be ruined by a constant din inside the car, be sure it suits you before chopping it to bits mate!

When I got my car it was standard and it was just right, I'm even going to put the catted y back in, slower but much more civilised and enjoyable to cruise about with.
Just my pennies worth buddy.

With the sleeved option I guess only partially sleeving the perforated tubes will be more civilised rather than having solid tubes instead? Or am I misguided?
I've read mixed reviews on the cherry bombs. Someone somewhere said it ruined it.

I agree I need to hear it to make my own choice.

I've heard Sheels car and it sounded great but I can't remember if it had the Clive Y installed at the time. My son lives in one of my houses and says he can hear my car when it fires up! The house is two streets away. I honestly feel like saying sorry to my neighbours every bloody day.

The car is moth balled and my neighbours like me again????
The sleeved sound is the best to me but defo have a drive before doing it.
Good luck.

hi j4cks , this is the route I went down if it helps ?
car to quite for me all original exhaust etc
had the standard middle exhaust box taken off and adapted in stainless steel to around 7" in size perforated pipe and padded out inside to help stop that inside cabbing noise
car was much louder but not as loud as straight through pipes , on tick over the car sounded ok but when putting your foot on the gas pedal something wasn't right with the exhaust noise I wanted to achieve "early pre cat griff"
finally went down the route of a clive f "y piece" and its now what I expect a tvr to sound like great on acceleration and brilliant in tunnels

as others have said best to see/listen to various setups first and make your decision

hope this helps you

Mine's decatted, but standard exhaust. 101-105 decibels, depending on who is measuring.

To my ears it's just right. Sleeved exhaust would be too much, and I would struggle badly with track day noise limits.

If you plan to go on track do bear this in mind.

De cat or Clive's Y + sleeved pipe must be pushing 110 and you'd never get on a trackday.
For sound alone it seems standard Y and sleeved is hard to beat, half sleeved might be good
In an ideal world you've got a welder a ramp and loads of time to get it how you like.

I really like the car standard its a beautiful sound and has many harmonics going on. It doesn't have to be loud to turn you on! A 4.0 litre chevi van thing went past and it was quiet but menacing in all the right ways.

Yeah but you do 3 miles a year Rich!
Can't disagree with the pops you get from sleeved but 105+ is gonna fk someone's ears up.

Its all down to the owner really. My cars to fast for me so I need to slow it down abit, timings already been adjusted, lol.

Rich do you use your motor for longer journeys because that's the time it becomes abit much. Again some guys will still love it so its really the individuals choice.

I'm prone to getting in the car and driving til sunset or the sea comes into view and I never got bored of the original sound, I don't enjoy the car as much now but its seriously faster mind!

It wears you out in the end!
A set if canns and I suppose you've got the best of both worlds.

Cheers Rich. I'll PM you.

I have been reliably informed by Clive F that a good place to start would be with the pre cats. He says this might be a good starting block and then go from there to get the desired sound, whether that is sleeving, full decat etc.

I will probably try this by just removing the Y piece if I can. Bearing in mind my mechanical skills are limited at best, is this a job I should be tackling alone, without anything other than a socket set and items to smash hell out of the pre cats? Or am I going to need trolleys jacks (which I can borrow) and new exhaust gaskets when the Y piece is refitted?

I don't want to start something and be left with a car in bits and without the knowledge/ ability to finish the job and get back on the road - which is what it's all about!!

Interesting day, Jack came over and we went out in my Chim for a noise review lovely day for it, bit slippy but gave it some beans then let Jack bring it back good comparison against his 400HC by the looks on his face he was converted

Later a mate up the road with a very nice Griff called over for a cuppa he has a Clive F manifold and no pre cats but standard exhaust, let him loose in mine and we had a mad hoon about and now another convert to sleeved exhausts, we found a quiet bit of service road on my normal test route, it was good to get out of my car and see and hear it being driven hard, sounded awesome, we did a swop and he took some video, hoping he will post it up cos seeing a chim on full chat is something to behold

Great day !!!
