Cooper S JCW Oil Pressure Light
Discussion
Hi All,
My '03 R53 Cooper JCW oil light came on - so into the garage and they found the oil level was right, no fault codes so they diagnosed a faulty oil pressure switch and replaced it. But the light still came on when tested - we've checked the oil filter housing and that's OK so we're looking at an oil pump problem.
Has anyone else had similar issues?
I'm in a local garage I've used in the past and they're good guys - but is this a problem where I should be looking at a specialist? I'm planning a specialist in the future but this one just kind of cropped up so I needed to get the car in quickly and locally.
Thanks
J

Take the cap off when it's running, if there is oil splashing around in the rocker cover it's not a pump problem.... Does the sender work on an earth principle to activate the light ? Maybe the wire is trapped and grounded between the sensor and the light, remove the wire to the sensor, does the light stay on then ,?

Rigga you were spot on - the wire was grounding against an engine mount. The mechanic at the garage found it (beyond my abilities I'm afraid) and he's got a picture for me so I'll post it later.Dislip2001 said:
Hi James could you tell me the name of the garage you use ? My daughters Mini CooperS has decided to stop working and she needs someone to look at it and were in herts too, many thanks Craig
Hi Craig - might be too late on this but I went to Derbyshire Autos in St Albans (01727 850476) I'd been recommended to 1320 as the other guys have mentioned but I was recommended to speak to Derbyshire by a friend with exactly the same car (age, spec, options etc) as me and I've not been disappointed. They don't offer all the services of 1320 but they are ex-BMW and have a really good approach - the first place I've ever been where the mechanic has called me four times through the day to give me updates and to chat!
