HID issues with TD6

I've had problems with the nearside dipped beam for a while, firstly it was flickery so I replaced the bulbs and it was fine for a couple of weeks, then the nearside light died completely so I replaced the ballast, fine again for the grand total of a day before doing the same thing again, has this happened to anyone else?, am I better off just getting a complete new Headlight unit to sort this?.
