Toyota GT86 TRD - with photos!

So here it is, a GT86 with the Toyota Racing Development bits on it

Picked it up on Thursday with 7400 miles on it, I've done 400 miles so far and love it! It's so well balanced and has loads of feel.

I'm a photographer so of course it is only right that there are some photos...

When I got it home:




Driving position is great






Engine is very low and you can tell when driving. Very little body roll, especially when you consider the ride height isn't very low


I then went off to go take some better photos












Then yesterday I went to London to take some photos... First stop a tunnel to see how it sounds! (It was good, but perhaps a little muted)

















So that is it so far... Looking forward to putting some miles on it, maybe going up to Scotland in the new year

How does the TRD differ (engine wise) from the standard car?

Great looking car , ironic you have a white 370z in the background of the first pic

I was thinking long and hard about the GT86 or a 370z , lots of pros and cons for both but i plumbed for the 370 which i picked up yesterday

Mind you the 86 looks stunning in white

Stunning photos...but that rear spoiler just kills it, they look so much better with ducktails IMO

The engine is standard although the quad exhaust differs from the standard car. I am doing the PH Surrey Rolling Road day so will find out how much power it has then. It pulls well so I'm happy regardless, I haven't really driven it in the dry yet though!

Got a friend to drive it over the bridge while I stood on in the middle of the bridge taking photos!

Bodykit (front, side and rear), quad exhausts, 18" wheels, gear knob, radiator cap and fuel filler cap. Not huge amounts, but does make it look more sporty

My friend picked up the 370 the day before so gave me a lift to pick up the GT86. They're a lot closer in a straight line than I thought they would be and the GT86 has rear seats and a good boot remember. Not really direct competitors but when they're together the shape of the two cars is a little similar

They're a lot closer in a straight line than I thought they would be and the GT86 has rear seats and a good boot remember. Thats interesting the performance difference on paper is significant ie over 2 seconds to 60, and that was the decision maker for me and perhaps not wanting to work the engine hard all the time , i like a lazy cruiser occasionally. When you consider modern rwd Japanese sports cars you are pretty much stuck between the '86 and 370 but I'm sure no one would be disappointed with either

Although I think your friend may need to get his 370z checked out..

Probably the nicest one I've seen. Still not keen on the interior though, if only they had spent another 5p on it.

Can't say I agree, it's actually a really nice place to be and has a driving position that is close to perfect. All my friends who have been in it have praised it and it really is a step up from the 370!.

There are a few things that are bugging me though:
- the external mirrors don't have a curved edge so the blind spots are fairly large
- the brake pedal isn't big enough so it's very difficult to heel & toe
- the steering wheel doesn't have buttons to control the stereo which IMO it should

Ive been in several GT86's and im sorry but the interior is far from a step up from a 370Z, yes I own a 370 and you have a GT86 so naturally will argue our own corners.

Also in a straight line the 86 doesnt really see which way a Z went, so not sure if your mate wasnt trying in his Z when you had a play!

That's one of the baest looking GT86's i have seen. The way Toyota should have done it.
