I just don't get time wasters. Why do they do it, what sort of enjoyment do they get. Be it gumtree, ebay,or just anything in general. Why would you choose to wast another individuals time, just for the censored of it. mad

Much the same as the couples who go looking at houses for sale with no intention of a purchase - sad folk with nothing better to do.

Maybe for the same reason Welshbeef makes up stories. I don't know what that reason is, but they're probably the same.

Who says they are timewasters, they could have a budget they can just about stretch to either with the car or house and find the example you have up for sale isn't worth the beans on toast suppers when they actually see it.

This thread touched a chord with me as I try to sell my car without success. yes they darn well are time wasters. People who e-mail you and say they want to look at your car and never get back to you again. What is that, other than time-wasting. I don't have a problem with people who come and look at a car and don't like it. That's entirely their prerogative, but the idiots who promise to turn up and don't or feign interest and you never hear from them. They are pain the butt!

I used to work with one such person,he used to go on holiday to look at peoples houses,he would hire a decent car get dressed up and live the dream of pretending to be something he wasn't.
They rented a cottage while down there and would show us pictures of them doing the garden etc,one day somebody asked why he was doing the garden in a rented holiday cottage? It dawned on us that he was pretending to live there.
Very strange man,he had 20-30 goes on the lottery every time it was on. He soon earned himself the nickname of Walter Mitty.

Vast majority of those types just aren't quite clever enough to pull it off tbh. You would need a scorpio quality memory to cover your tracks.

Why do they do it? Attention seeking. Makes them feel important, same as the characters who are always in hospital, its like a revolving door. On. General nite, there are too many dreamers in this country, in America you would be sounded out, over here we don't like calling out two sheds and making a scene.

Plenty about - I had a few when I sold my Griff.

One guy drove up from London (2hrs) then spent 4 hours examining the car (I left him to it and went in after 30 mins)

Having been unable to find any problems he left.

MADNESS... I mean why go view a car 2 hours away, to then not buy it when it turns out to be perfect.....

I've sold plenty of cars. I don't bend backwards for people.

I just tell them when I'm available eg "between 12 and 2pm on Thursday" and arrange multiple viewings for around the same time if need be.

When you find someone who seems interested, you need to push for the sale. I'm surprised at the amount of people that just stand back and wonder why they left...

I sell Motorhomes, typically theyre a slow sale to people who have plenty of time on their hands, thats fine.
But ive had some people coming in for literally 7+ years,I know theyre never gonna buy, they know it to but they still come in.
Some just look but some take up time asking questions etc which gets wearing after 7 years.
One couple always had a get out excuse but I once found them a van so flawlessly perfect for them he couldnt find any reason not to buy it,you could see his head was about to explode, they nipped to the car to get the deposit, got in and ive never seen them since!

It wasn't that he didn't buy it - he didn't even make an offer.

He kept saying things like - under here is where you can see if the fibreglass has been repaired.... oh, it hasn't

At best, I guess he couldn't afford it and wanted to find some huge issue to negotiate the price down - however I think that was just how he liked to spend his time.

The OP must have a huge house if he buys everything he ever looks at.

No, he owns lots of small houses. He cannot be bothered to sell because of timewasters......
