Need urgent advice on which car to buy
Discussion
Hi so a bit about myself...
Im 20 years old and about to turn 21. I have been saving up for a while for a nice car and now the time has come.
The cars I have in mind are as follows:
CLK200K Sport 2005-2008 (the one with the amg bodykit)around £7-8k
Honda Civic Type R 2005-2006 EP3 Premier edition around £5k
Audi S3 2002-2003 around £4-6k
Golf R32 2003-2004 around £6-7k (although I would probably discourage this due to the running costs and engine size)
BMW 330 ClubSport around £5k ( again probably not going to buy as stated above running + petrol, just another choice)
Does anyone know the ball park figures I should look to pay for any of the cars above.
Also I have checked the insurance on these cars by tweaking every last detail to where the car is parked (which I find amusing as the insurers want 1 grand more to park the car in the garage).
The prices for insurance are roughly as follows:
clk200k sport around £1500
Honda civic around £2300
Audi S3 around £2500
Golf R32 around £2300
BMW around £2300
I would really appreciate if I could have feedback of people who have been in my position and people who knowledgeable about cars which 1 would be the best for me all round.
I am focusing on petrol costs and running costs as these can vary between these cars significantly.
Also In regards to insurance my mother has her car at the moment which I am going to take to uni in September. So an idea would be to make her the main driver as I will hardly be driving the car I buy anyway due to being at work 60 hours of the week. The problem is the insurance comes out to 3k with a 3k excess, with all the cars above; bar the clk200k sport which comes out around the same price as a named driver.
So I was enquiring if there would be anyway to bring this down i.e ring the insurers to sort out a deal and explain I will be taking my mums car to uni anyway in a few months so I will have my own car. I know about fronting and I wont be doing this as like I said my mum will more than likely drive the car more than me. And there will be a box to monitor my speed etc anyway so I know the score.
Again any advice on this would be much appreciated, and also suggestions of any cars similar to these which I could consider. I know I'll probably get abused for this but im serious and I've been waiting a long time. It hurts when I see people of similar ages driving these car for years doing whatever 'illegal' things they do to fund them. This has, over the years, made me determined to buy a nice little sport car which I will pay from my hard work and cherish + treat with respect.
Thank you.

Odd situation?
I would buy something depreciation proof and sell it before you go to Uni, unless your mother needs a car when you take hers. Why don't you take your car to Uni?
I would look at a vx220. Cheap on fuel, cheap on consumables/ servicing, depreciation proof at the moment, and was a group 16 insurance (in the old groups) so not too bad for insurance either. You could probably buy now and not loose any penny (or make some) come selling in September.....

Very long and odd situation mate lol. Everyones telling me to wait til i finish uni and get a Audi s3 or something for 15k on finance. But ive been waiting long and I really want a car. Yeh my mum can take the car I buy as I wont be driving it to uni, as her car is much older it would be ideal for commuting. Plus I would want to keep the mileage low on the car I buy and keep it in top condition.

but thanks for the suggestion.I'm surprised you have been saving so long and hard but no idea what car you want, when I'm saving for a car I'm on autotrader every single day keeping an eye out for the exact spec I want to become available.
All the cars you listed are fairly similar in terms of performance and costs so just go with the one you like the most.
From your list I'd have the Civic Type R or the R32. Personally I'd look at either a Focus ST or a 130i (that's going by your original suggestions).

I was in almost the exact same situation as you 6 months ago. 21 years old, 7k budget after a lot of saving.
Plumped for an Alfa Brera in the end. Got the 2.2 petrol. 3.2 petrol too pricey on insurance, petrol and tax for the moment. 2.4 diesel sounds like a tractor with no real difference in economy or performance.
So I’m biased, but would recommend a Brera! Look incredible inside and out. At c.7k I think the depreciation curve will majorly flatten out for such a looker. Not a sports car, more of a GT but certainly still great fun. And insurance incredibly reasonable – only £800 for me (4 years NCB).
Can seat 4, but wouldn’t want to take more than one passenger for more than a short journey, very cramped in the back!

Take a quote out on this?

It's basically the thinking mans Golf GTI/Audi S3. 200 BHP 2.0 TFSI with Torsen full-time four-wheel drive, not Haldex electronic rubbish. It's also well specced with nav/leather/xenons/bose plus a two year warranty with this example, and may seem more 'mature' and 'sensible' to ins. companies

Was was going to suggest the a3 with the same engine. Remap would see you with 240bhp would have to check insurance thoughhttp://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2013...

I know I sound selfish but if I have an a3 and pull up next to an s3 im gonna look like an idiot. I like the audi a3 3.2 quattro, now that is a wolf in a sheep's clothing, shame insurance is £3000 tho
