Beside the slaughter house I think the Cal' Mc' ferries aren't fussy about who works for them. It's an easy stop gap until you find a different career. I hope you get something soon.

Cal Mac, or how about the stand by boats out of Montrose for the north sea? 4 + 4 I think so it matters not where you live, rough weather at this time of year but if that's your bag....no bad dough either I think.

Unfortunately you are moving to one of scotlands unemployment blackspots. North Ayrshire regularly appears at the top of most unemployment leagues.

Yeah I have seamans book and discharge card and all the stcw95, huet, yellow fever, Norwegian medical plus lots more but I was ship security. I would love to get offshore on the rigs but my security equals aren't worth a jot and I don't want to spend my life at sea. Done two years and being on small ships the entire time has really put me off.
Got my front line sia and hoping to get land work.
Don't get me wrong I'm not being choosy just having a career change. The ibdustry is demanding more and more courses for less and less money and the conditions are ste.

On the positive side of things, your're not far from Glasgow. Chap I work with commutes every day, it's not far at all.

Good luck,

Get a job as a security guard in Glasgow meanwhile? or the prison service?

The rigs are very hard to get on now unless your very lucky or know someone in the loop as it were,

but you don't sound like you fancy that, cal mac are a good company to work for and with your certs I would think you would get a job with them without too much trouble in the spring though you would have to apply now or asap, and your on a good rotation on good ships ( the big ferrys ) and live aboard when working or if it were me I would aim for the smaller " Loch " series boats though you would have to live close to the boats home port.

ardrossan isnt that bad a place, got all the usual amenities like shops, pubs etc, good road and rail links to glasgow and beyond and the views are spectacular. lived there all my life, plus we have a good football team; ardrossan winton rovers that has a braw wee social club on matchdays
