NASA 747

Now that the NASA 747 is no longer required to piggy back the shuttle, what has happened to it?

Has it been rebuilt in a different configuration, or retired?

Basically they are both going to be used for spares to support the SOFIA 747 based telescope programme

They are both very old airframes (the oldest is around 40 years old).

One of them is, one of them isn't, it's going in a museum somewhere with a mock up shuttle on its back IIRC.

Both will probably be true, they will strip it before its on display.
